So much so, they have started a Facebook page called Arcadiaphile to collect and share information about their place in the sun for the past fi ve years. “There is a sense of community here that you don’t get in other areas of the Valley,” Melissa said. “You don’t get this in Glendale, you don’t get this in Gilbert, there’s just a feeling in this area that people know each other.” Continued on page 17 5602 E. Page 17 June 2013 Melissa and her husband Bill hope to post all-things-Arcadia like new restaurants, shops, events. But, what to name the page? “People are really into Arcadia, right? So how can you convey that in a name?” Bill said. The couple decided “phile” would best show how committed residents are to Arcadia. The page launched in April. A website and Twitter account are scheduled to go up this month. Melissa wrote early posts about the new Arcadia Farmers Market, which opened April 21. Arcadia Farmers Market co-owner Katrina Alfaro said she had seen the page and noticed it had shared some of the farmers market posts. “They don’t have a huge fan base yet, but I think that once it gets it, it’s going to be very awesome for the Arcadia businesses,” Alfaro said. The page currently has 50ish likes, many from friends, Melissa said. “The fi rst time that somebody ‘Liked’ our page that wasn’t one of our friends, it was a really big deal,” she said. Both Bertolinos have writing experience. Melissa is a marketing and communications copywriter for an insurance company, while Bill, a former reporter and editor, is in public relations. “We really like to write,” Bill said. “I missed writing when I got into public relations and it’s sort of an outlet. Not that I’m going to be doing long-form journalism on it or anything. But I miss that connection with readers and that response, and if we get some of that it’s great.” The two are Arizona natives with two children who say they just want to have fun with the page. “If it gets a good following, that’s great, that’s a bonus,” Bill said. “For us, it’s fun because we’re into the things we’re posting and we’re into the area. So if we get people who follow us and maybe learn some things and we help promote Arcadia a little bit, then that’s great.” Arcadiaphile Continued from page 16 Arcadia resident Dr. Allen R.
