19 FEBRUARY 2025 By Mark Hays O . H . S . O . Brewery, award- winning chef Mark Tarbell, and Arizona- ba s e d Bel l Bank teamed up this winter for the “Pay it Forward with Pints” initiative to benefit the Careers through the Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), a nonprofit that connects high schoolers with opportunities in the hospitality industry while providing them with essential skills and scholarships. According to Tarbell, who’s been involved with the organization for years, the inspiration behind the Pay It Forward campaign came from “knowing Barb Colleary, a trailblazer for children’s programs who introduced C-CAP to Arizona in 1994.” “She was a major driving force for good and all things that benefited children,” Tarbell said. “She asked me to be involved in this new, innovative way to support high school students. The program was based in the culinary arts but gave each kid skills and opportunities beyond the stove.” The 2024 initiative features two custom beers crafted by O.H.S.O. Brewery: Slice and Dice Rice Lager and Yes, Chef! Amber Lager. The specially designed cans show colorful graphics, “fun facts,” and images of a smiling Tarbell. The brews are available at O.H.S.O. and $2 from every pint ordered is donated to C-CAP. “We worked hard to find the right choices and were unanimous in the final selection. The rice beer is my favorite. Besides my goofy picture, the graphics are great, and I love the names,’” Tarbell said. “What’s in the can is tasty and is a great way to raise money for a great organization.” The custom c a n s a l s o feat u re QR codes leading to C-CAP’s website, where supporters can learn more and make donations. Proceeds from the initiative directly support Arizona students participating in C-CAP, their competitions, in-class support, and higher education scholarships. Kyle Kennedy, Bell Bank’s Phoenix president, was excited about the impact of the collaboration. “Bell has teamed up with O.H.S.O. for the past several years to brand ‘Pay It Forward’ beers, with both businesses donating to a selected local charity for each pint sold. This fun, annual collaboration is echoed in other markets with businesses to benefit charity,” Kennedy said. This year’s collaboration took on an added dimension when Bell featured several ‘Bell Champions’ – respected individuals who partner with the company to pay it forward to help others. For Tarbell, the initiative is an effortless way for everyone to make a difference. “Do good and have a little fun along the way,” he said. “O.H.S.O., Bell Bank, Tarbell’s, and Tarbell’s Wine Store are all supporters, but we also want to thank our amazing communities for the support they give.” ohsobrewery.com Yes, chef!
