4 MARCH 2024 — – — – — – EDITOR’S NOTE Three interesting facts about Notre Dame University: The campus spans over 1,250 acres; the football team has won 11 national championships; and perhaps the most interesting fact – when it comes to our neighborhood: one leprechaun that can be seen running around the stadium is none other than Arcadia local Ryan Coury. Both of Ryan’s parents attended Notre Dame, and he followed in their footsteps, immersing himself in classes and campus life. But when he saw a social media post regarding mascot tryouts, Ryan knew he’d found his calling. For the past two years, he’s become the all-over-green-clad gentleman hyping up the crowds and dancing the Irish jig at sports games across the university. These years of leprechaun-ing have been a blast for Ryan, who will graduate with degrees in finance, real estate and sports media and culture and then head home to Phoenix. Speaking of sports, our area high schools have wrapped up their winter sports seasons with some awesome accomplishments, including top 10 rankings, and state and national playoff runs. This year, they are taking the Hopi community on the ride of a lifetime as they present The Hopi Headliners of Las Vegas. Four-hundred students will dance, sing, perform magic and more – Elvis may even make a surprise appearance.
