4 MAY 2023 EDITOR’S NOTE Is there a song out there that, whenever you hear it, it reminds you of your mom? For me, it would be ‘Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show,’ sung by the great Neil Diamond. My cousins and I would be piled in the back of an enormous red Ford Aerostar, mom behind the wheel, when she would pull over at the spur of the moment for an “executive fire drill” while Neil crooned on in the background. Our May edition is packed with tributes: we’ve got a mother/daughter juice delivery company, the Movers for Moms donation campaign, and the Mountain Mamas, a group of Phoenix women who took their hiking abilities to the next level by completing the 800-mile Arizona Trail that spans from the border of Mexico to Utah. Heather McManus and her group, dubbed the Mountain Mamas, spent over a year hiking the 43 passages that make up the trail. Despite tremendous weather conditions, blisters and run- ins with desert critters, the ladies found deep respect for Arizona, and for themselves. “My AZT journey started off as a fun way to see Arizona and get active outdoors on the weekends; little did I know how much I would grow as a person and fall even more in love with my home state,” Heather said. “Among my favorite memories was the steward leaving me a Blue Moon beer for my birthday in one of the bear boxes.” What’s a bear box?
