Phoenix Veterans Day Parade presented by Honoring Arizona’s Veterans On November 11 from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. celebrate local veterans at the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade. The parade starts at North Phoenix Baptist Church. According to the Arizona Department of Veteran Services website, this year’s theme is “No Longer Forgotten, Remembering Korean War Veterans.” The Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Committee is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of dedicated veterans, military and community leaders who are committed to ensuring our veterans are recognized for their service, said the Arizona Department of Veteran Services website. The parade has been ongoing since 1997. This parade features 45,000 attendees, 100 parade entries and seven announcer booths along the route for you to learn more about our veterans. Fourth annual Phoenix National Veterans Day Run This Veterans Day be a part of the fourth annual National Veterans Day Run. Go out and support our veterans and active-duty members of the military. The run will take place at Thunderbird Paseo Park. The race will offer two distances, including a 5K and a 1-mile family and supporter walk and run. The cost for veterans and active-duty military is $11. The cost of registration varies. Late basic registration is open until November 7 and racers can sign up to run on race day for an additional fee. The run will take place on November 11. Volunteer with the Phoenix Rescue Mission during Thanksgiving Drop off frozen turkeys and nonperishable food items at the Phoenix Rescue Mission on November 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mission’s Frozen Turkey Sunday event. According to the Phoenix Rescue Mission website, the organization hopes to feed 1,500 local families. Vista del Camino Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program Sign up to adopt a family this Thanksgiving season through the City of Scottsdale’s Vista del Camino Community Center. Vista del Camino hopes to feed 500 families this holiday season. To adopt a family, senior citizen or disabled adult, fill out an online donor application and mail it to the following address before November 6. Volunteers are needed to help with Thanksgiving distribution from November 17-20. Volunteers are also needed for the winter holidays from December 15-18.
