Page 50 March 2015 By Kassidy McDonald Tennis has been a part of 67-year-old Brian Cheney’s life for as long as he can remember. “I don’t remember a time when tennis wasn’t a part of my life. My mom hung a tennis ball with fishing line above my crib, that’s always been a bit of a running joke in our family,” said Brian. Cheney comes from a long line of tennis players dating back to his grandmother May Bundy, who came across from England in 1889 to Pasadena, California and was the first American to win the Wimbledon Tennis Championship. Both Coach celebrates 39 years Brian Cheney’s passion is in teaching his love of tennis to students of all ages. Cheney’s mother and grandmother have been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. At age 7, Cheney played in his first tournament and by the time he graduated from the University of Arizona he was a three-time All-American. In the summer before going into the Air Force, Cheney had the honor of being a Junior Davis Cup coach. He coached promising young players for seven intense weeks.
