Page 24 July 2014 Kids find summer fun in the most unexpected places By Christina Surrano Escape the heat with the following activities for kids thooughout the valley: Peter Piper Pizza Restaurant Tour Behind-the-scene tours are available year-round at Peter Piper Pizza, but summertime is ideal, since the walk-in freezer is one of the stops along the way. Kids learned all about how Peter Piper makes their pizza, starting with cutting the cheese. Along the way we met the different team members and learned about their various job functions. The children even got some hands-on time, choosing their own toppings and putting them on their personal pizzas. (Wisely, portions are controlled.) The tour was just the right amount of time and covered everything from the flour they use to make the dough to the temperature of the pizza oven. The visit was fun and educational for both kids and adults. Tours start before 10 a.m., which worked out perfectly for our group. By the time the tour was over and the tokens ran dry and the kids’ pizzas were ready. At the same time, the lunch buffet opened up ($5.99 for adults; $3.99 for children). Being the first one through the buffet line has huge perks when it comes to oven- fresh pizza. The $2.99 tour lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, and includes a 7-inch pizza, small drink and 10 tokens per child. The information in this article is based on a visit to the Miller and McDowell restaurant, but Peter Piper Pizza has Peter Piper tours let kids in on the pizza action. A candy factory tour is sweet summer fun! Pueblo Grande allows kids to dig the summer away. One cool way to beat the heat is at the ice arena.
