Page 24 April 2013 “The Friday Market” is open through May at the Camelback Esplanade, 2525 East Camelback. From 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. each Friday, the market features organic produce, grass-fed beef and pork, cheeses and butters and local-artisan baked goods. By Shelby Slade Aliens will invade Arcadia High School for three nights in April – and one matinee. The latest production from AHS’s drama department, The Arcadia Project, was written by AHS students and is different from musicals the school has performed in the past, said Richard Fairchild, theater instructor. “It has all the traditional elements that you would fi nd in a musical,” Fairchild said. “There is some singing, dancing and there are big group numbers. We took a risk, and we are doing some things that no one has ever done before in terms of a musical.” The play is about an alien invasion occurring in Arcadia, but at the center of the musical is a love story. Most of the bands whose members wrote songs for the play will perform their songs on stage. The play also features one of the high school’s assistant principals. The Arcadia Project has given more students an opportunity to participate than past performances have allowed, Fairchild said. “We are able to write a script that fi t the students who are here and give people opportunities who might normally not have an opportunity to be on stage because they don’t fi t the traditional musical model.” The actors will take the stage at 7 p.m. April 18, April 19 and April 20, with a 3 p.m. matinee on April 20. Tickets are $5. The play will be in the Arcadia High School auditorium, 4700 E. Indian School Road.
