Page 26 December 2012 Reunion takes family to site of Civil War battle By Kaley Kalil Jim Wilson and his wife, Penny, fi rst moved to Arcadia in 1970 from western Maryland. Their three grown children, Jay, Jeff and Judi, all attended local schools and state universities. Over the years, however, as with many families, time put distance between them as the kids grew up and moved out of state or out of the area. Now in his 70s, Jim, along with his brother, Dick, recently organized a family reunion for themselves and their three sons back in their hometown of Hagerstown, Md., about 70 miles west of Baltimore. “My brother, Dick and I share a long Continued on page 28 Jeff, Jay, Jim, Dick and Richard Wilson at a Confederate Limber, which was used to haul the cannons and was pulled by two or more horses. Page 27 December 2012 These three items will help take stress out of travel By Kaley Kalil With bustling airports and long lines throughout the holiday season, it’s helpful to keep your things organized when traveling. Here are three items that will make your holiday travel more enjoyable this year. Hoodie Buddie These cool hoodies comes with built- in headphone buds in the drawstrings so you can comfortably listen to Christmas music all month long. Connect them to your phone or MP3 player to stay plugged in wherever you go. We all know that life is more interesting with background music, so create a soundtrack for your life and turn heads by adding a little rhythm to your step. In a time where everyone seems to be glued to their cell phones and music players, these convenient sweatshirts are a great buy at $18-$45 each. They’re available in both zip-up and pullover styles and come in many colors and designs for both men and women. Check them out at hoodiebuddie.com or at Kmart stores. Plus, with two-day online shipping, hoodie buddies make great Christmas presents for the kids. Carry Closet Although not a new concept, I can’t be the only traveler who still hasn’t invested the time or money in fi nding a good garment bag. Instead of stressing over whether you’ll be able to fi nd the time to iron your wrinkled Christmas dress or suit after your plane was delayed for three hours this holiday season, pack your hanging clothes separately in a travel garment bag. I found the “Carry Closet” on Amazon. com for $19 with free Prime shipping. This full-length garment carrier double- folds for easy carrying, has a plastic viewing window to make locating a speci fi c garment easier, and keeps your clothing crease-free throughout your travels. If you choose to continue stuf fi ng your clothes into your suitcase, try rolling them instead of folding them to reduce creasing. And as soon as you get to your destination, turn the shower on hot, close the door, hang your clothes, and watch the wrinkles fall right out. You’ll look smashing at that holiday dinner party, even if you are three hours late.
