Page 12 December 2012 Homeless targeted in a good way Justice Steven Sarkis Recently I was appointed to serve on the Maricopa County Regional Homeless Court governing committee. As such, I found myself in a tiny conference room at the Human Services Campus in downtown Phoenix in an area once referred to as Phoenix’s skid row. In this room, packed like sardines, were judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, case managers, advocates from various organizations and about a dozen homeless individuals. The cause that brought this diverse group together is a great one. In this conference room turned makeshift courtroom, these homeless individuals have the opportunity to clear up pending court cases, an amazing step in the right direction for many homeless people.
