Page 30 October 2012 Neighbor Continued from page 27 home, he shared my Facebook page with a couple gallery owners.” “As conversations continued, they felt I had a large enough scope of work to do a full gallery showing,” he said. When Paul and his brother-in-law, Peter, arrived in Pisa, they rented a car and drove to Lucca in the Northern part of Tuscany. They stayed in Montefegatesi, a small nearby town up in the mountains, at the Villa Dante – a private six-bedroom residence. The art show was held at a gallery in the town of Bagni di Lucca, nestled in the hills of the Apuan Alps about 20 minutes from Lucca. “I shipped over 19 pieces for the show,” he said, which took place Aug. 10-30 and welcomed visitors from all over the world. Paul sold two pieces from the show, including one piece to a woman from New York “who said it would be perfect in her beach house.” On the last night of his trip, Paul’s friends hosted a dinner at Villa Dante. Townspeople, other gallery owners, artists and friends came to enjoy a homemade dinner of gnocchi, fresh Caprese salad with homemade mozzarella, a three-meat stew and lots of wine. “It was one of the most enjoyable nights I have had,” Paul said. “Imagine sitting in the Tuscan mountains under the stars eating great, fresh food, sharing stories about art and listening to all these people speaking Italian.” Paul enjoyed eating fresh, seasonal and regional food throughout his trip. He ventured out of the norm and tried Vitello al Tonno (chilled veal in tuna sauce) – and loved it. “I would go back in a heartbeat, and we are planning to as a family. I really would like to see more of Tuscany,” Paul said. In his artwork, Paul combines litho print techniques with chemical washes and embellished prints using pastels and acrylics. “I would consider my work contemporary with an interesting fl are,” he said. “I have always been an observant person and most of my work is how I see things in people or things. I enjoy that there is a little bit of discovery in most of my pieces.” You can check out Paul’s art at www. artbydino.com. Traveled lately or know someone who has?
