Page 21 January 2012 Thyroid Continued from page 10 If you’re having trouble losing weight after being on a good diet coupled with exercise for at least two months, it may be time to talk to your physician. The doctor will begin by feeling for the two-inch long, butter fl y-shaped gland in your neck, above the collar bone for swelling and lumps. A blood test can check your levels of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), as well as review your symptoms. Other tests may be ordered. An underactive thyroid is not reversible, but with the right medication and monitoring of symptoms, the prognosis is excellent. Jackie Doris, M.D., practices at Arcadia Family Clinic, 4131 N. 24th St., Suite B-102, Phoenix. She can be reached at 602-955-6632 or JCL.com/practices. Channel staples will still be broadcast, including America’s Test Kitchen, Eight’s most popular show. Other familiar faces include Julia Child and Valley local Barbara Fenzl, who hosts Savor of the Southwest . Carol Clewell, another Arcadia resident, said the changes could help the station. “Getting a broader audience is extremely important,” Clewell said. “I enjoy the quality journalism.” Eight Life will replace Eight Create on the same channel – 8.2HD/Cox 80. Goodwill trucks will make pick-ups Valleywide. “We’re trying to make it as easy as possible to donate,” said Jim Teter, president and CEO of Goodwill of Central Arizona. “We tested pick-ups in certain Valley neighborhoods for the past few months and found donors really appreciated it.” Goodwill of Central Arizona accepts donations of house wares, clothing, furniture, electronics, toys, accessories and vehicles. Ninety cents of every dollar generated from retail stores go back into the local community to help people fi nd work, according to Teter. To schedule pick-up, call 602-513-8444.
