CREIGHTON SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS CUT ITS BUDGETS TO THE BONE. Help us prevent further cuts that would hurt our children’s schools. Over the past few years, state and federal budget shortfalls have led to some dramatic cuts at Creighton Schools: Visit www.ForCreightonKids.com or “LIKE US” on Facebook. And remember to vote YES on or before November 8, 2011! Creighton still provides a strong education to our children, but it’s getting harder and harder for the district to make ends meet. There simply aren’t many other places to cut without affecting the overall education provided to our children. Why should you vote YES? • Eliminated 61 full time teaching positions • Reduced the number of teacher aides by 80% • Reduced district/school administrative staff by 35% • Eliminated all school librarians • Reduced the number of special education aids by 60% • Eliminated the district-wide Gifted program and all associated teachers • Reduced special education teachers by 33%, and special education aids by 60%. • Reduced school bus drivers by 20%, with a consequent reduction in routes. • The 5% Maintenance and Operations Override adds pennies a day to average property taxes and will restore key services to our schools. • The Technology Capital Override puts technology in the hands of students equal to the closest competitive school districts. • Good schools help property values. • Helps avoid an increase in class sizes. • Improving school resources and adding competitive technology will help make Creighton neighborhoods a magnet for families and increase property values. on Creighton Budget Overrides Vote YES! M&O OVERRIDE CAPITAL OVERRIDE Now we have a chance to level the playing field. By voting YES on the Creighton Overrides, we can give the district more resources to save key programs and help Creighton become more competitive. Good for Students. Good for Property Values.

Page 25 October 2011 Massachusetts offers something different for family Matthew, Grace and Emma Schlenker at Cape Cod. By Kaley Kalil Arcadia’s Schlenker family, headed by Brent and Linda, mixed things up by vacationing somewhere fascinating and new this summer. “We decided to go to Massachusetts this year because we wanted to do something different,” Linda said. “We had been going to Coronado every summer for years and really wanted the kids to see new places.” The Schlenkers started their adventure with two days in Boston hiking the Freedom Trail, where they gained a closer look at America’s Revolution. “I enjoyed everything about Paul Revere the most because I learned about him last year in school,” Matthew, 12, said. “It was crazy that (the Boston Massacre) all started from someone throwing a snowball.” “My favorite Boston thing was to see the swans and ride in the swan boats,” said 14-year-old Emma. The family saw the oldest pub in the U.S. and dined at various restaurants, including Cheers and the Union Street Oyster House, Boston’s oldest restaurant. “I love clam chowder and lobster rolls,” Linda said. “So I ate them every chance I got.” Though the Schlenkers were in Boston early July, they did not stay for the city’s famed Boston Pops 4 th of July Spectacular. “I think I watched that show on TV with my family every year since I can remember,” Brent said. “It was interesting to see it being set up.” Continued on page 26 435 4th Avenue San Diego, CA 92101 www.argsd.com 619•708•3512 monica.ball@argsd.com DRE Lic # 01495746 Monica Ball REALTOR ® 858•361•7081 jessica.freeman@argsd.com DRE Lic # 01886767 Jessica Freeman REALTOR ® Point Loma 1105 SUNSET CLIFFS BLVD Panoramic Oce Many more great beach homes available!
