Page 11 September 2011 Glee, Apes prove to be entertaining By Julie Demetros Glee: The 3D Concert Movie Director: Kevin Tancharoen Actors: Dianna Argon, Lea Michele, Daren Criss, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Chord Overstreet, Mark Salling, Harry Shum Jr., Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and Gwyneth Paltrow The TV show Glee is popular for a couple of things: mainly the story and the music. This concert movie focuses on the more entertaining of the two. And though they don’t touch on much of a story, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Interviews with “Gleeks” add a more personal side to it all and accentuate the message of both the show and the movie: acceptance of everyone and their differences. In the beginning, the movie seems to drag a little. It gets going with the interviews with speci fi c Glee fans, who say the show has really helped them. And all the songs hook and entertain to the end. An appearance from Gwyneth Paltrow is surprisingly a good thing, since her singing is much better than her acting. However, one can only hear her sing the same song so many times before starting to dislike the song a little just because she keeps singing it. After only three times of hearing her sing the clean version of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You,” I’m at that point. I could listen to the rest of the songs sung throughout the movie all day. Each of the singers has a great voice in different ways. Rachel (Michele) with her Barbra Streisand-esque voice to Mercedes (Riley) with her soulful voice that echoes in your ears to Blaine (Criss) and his version of “Teenage Dream” that’s more addicting than Katy Perry’s original version. On top of the surprisingly great performances and vocals from the actors, the songs they sing are a mixture of older and newer tunes.
