Page 10 May 2011 New rules for solicitation By William Boor A new solicitation ordinance de fi nes the hours commercial solicitors can ring your doorbell. They also must carry a form of government-issued identi fi cation and display it upon request. Even solicitors younger than 16 must show a school ID with a photograph. From April 1 through Sept. 30, door-to- door solicitors can operate between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., with those hours shrinking to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 through March 31. The new ordinance went into effect April 1 after the city received numerous complaints about solicitors and a potential link between neighborhood crime and door-to-door visitors.
