Youth, and food, is served By Jessica Abercrombie After a long day at work, Becky Armendariz said she enjoys nothing more than pouring herself a glass of white wine, cooking a delicious meal and occasionally practicing her precision shooting at the Scottsdale Gun Club. As a public-relations specialist at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Becky spends the majority of her day handling public-relations matters. Her daily duties include juggling social media, newsletters, pitching stories to the media, setting up interviews and working with physicians. The 25-year-old businesswoman takes pride in her work and has immersed herself in her profession. She is a 2008 graduate of ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Becky also owns her own home, an Arcadian condo, and said she likes to cook in her recently remodeled kitchen. Growing up, Becky said she stayed out Continued on page 45 • CHICAGO-STYLE HOT DOGS CHICAGO-STYLE HOT DOGS • MAXWELL ST. POLISH SAUSAGE MAXWELL ST. OK, not the real Edward Cullen – who is the key vampire in the Twilight Saga played by Robert Pattinson – but a life- sized cutout. Inside are more life-sized fi gures and studio owner Sherri Hildebrand who said they are all a bit of the fl are she likes to apply to everything, especially her actors and their personalities. Hildebrand said she was drawn to her location by her craving for Mama Java’s coffee and noticed vacant spaces available upstairs. It’s a great job. Very rewarding.” Carro is a community action of fi cer and works with block watch and speaks at various community meetings. Carro has patrolled locally nearly two years and while the neighborhood of Arcadia and the city of Scottsdale may not be thought of as high-crime areas, criminal activity does exist. Arcadia does not have the violent or capital crimes that happen in other areas, but plenty of daytime crimes occur while most residents and homeowners are at work. “The most common type of crime in that area is burglary,” Carro said. And while some of these crimes occur at homes, Carro said the majority occur when people leave their vehicles unattended with valuables in visible locations. While no crime would be ideal, it is a positive sign that there are a very limited amount of major crimes in the area. “We’re seeing mainly property damages, burglary from vehicles, stuff like that” Carro said. “What we’re not seeing in that area is any volume of violent crimes.” Studio offers opportunity for actors www.AreaSuccess.com 602.214.5169 YOU YOU HAVE HAVE OPTIONS OPTIONS
