Page 55 March 2011 Pet photos Continued from page 48 “The only class that I ever got any praise for was my photography class,” she said. After further developing her photography skills at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Calif., Pelberg started working as a studio manager for PetSmart and later as a part of Friends of Arizona Highways. After working with larger companies, Pelberg said she decided to use her experience and skills to open her own company, Cow Dreamz. All Pelberg’s work is done on location, meaning she travels to pet-owners’ homes or to outdoor locations to take her pictures. “They’re just more relaxed when they’re in their own home and with their own things,” she said. Pelberg said she doesn’t try to pose the animals, but instead tries to keep them acting natural so she can capture their personality. “It’s just fun to see how people interact with their pets,” she said. Pelberg also volunteers as photographer about once a week for the Arizona Animal Welfare League, which shelters more than 2,000 cats and dogs and helps fi nd new owners for them. “People ask me all the time, ‘Why do you go to the welfare league,’” Pelberg said. “I can’t go and take home all the animals, but I can go there and help out. It feeds my soul.” She also has donated her photography services to Safe Haven for Animals, Circle L Ranch, Healing Hearts Animal Sanctuary, Luv Shack Ranch Horse Rescue, Foothills Animal Rescue and Gabriel’s Angels. “Pets have become part of the family,” she said. “I think everyone deserves to have a really decent photo of their pet.” Jungle Book Greasepaint Youtheatre is performing Disney’s Jungle Book in Old Town Scottsdale. R EXCELLENCE CONTINUES FOR EX R EXCELL EXC CELL The Scottsdale Unified School District Foundation supports the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) by providing financial resources to our schools that go beyond the work and generosity of PTOs and tax credits. For the past five years, our Quest for Excellence grant program has distributed more than $200,000 to teachers to use with students for innovative in-classroom learning experiences across all complexes. We also created the Bill and Sue Jenkins’ National Board Certification grant program, which partially funds District teachers who pursue excellence through national board certification, a proven program to improve overall school performance.
