Page 40 March 2011 While Oscar voting awaits, teens fi nd worthy fi lms By Julie Demetros Since all the good movies rushed to come out before the Oscars, there aren’t too many decent options to review for March. Instead, I decided to fi nd out what movies Arcadia teens and tweens have been watching this past year, which ones they liked and why. See if your favorite is on the list. Lucy Hall-Hartley, 15, a student at Arcadia High School, said her favorite movie from the past year was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 , mainly for its excitement factor. She liked the fact that the movie stayed true to the book, for the most part, and that the director did such a great job. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part1 got another vote for all the action from 12-year-old Jasmine Jungkeit, a Kiva student whose family was in the February issue of the Arcadia News . “It made me want to read the books and see the rest of the movies,” she said, adding that this installment in the series was an improvement from the last movie, which she thought was a little dull in comparison to the other Harry Potter movies. Jasmine also liked the newest Alice in Wonderland , which was Gunnar Pedersen’s choice as well. “It had good CGI (computer-generated imagery),” said 13-year-old Gunnar, an Arcadia resident and homeschooler. “It also had good acting.” Another popular choice with two mentions is Inception . Justin Pizzaia and Emily Marderness, both 15-year-olds and Arcadia High School students, chose it as their favorite of the year. Elvis Before Noon records fi rst album as a band By Maria Herrick Elvis Before Noon, a local area band, started off as a band with no name that played at The Vig on Sundays. Members have been playing together since October 2008 and will record their fi rst album late this month. The band is made up of four local talents: Daylon Greer, the primary vocalist, Scott Johnson of the Gin Blossoms on lead guitar, Ringo Fire on drums, and Mr. P-body on bass. “Greer, Fire, and P-body have written over 80 songs, the joke is they have to narrow it down to 12 for an album,” said Nick Libby, of fi cial roadie and friend.
