The Titans travel to Tempe, arguably their toughest conference competition, on the 1st, then host the Buffaloes for the last game of the regular season on the 8th. Photo by Dale Messmer By Wayne Schutsky In addition to some new faces in the front of fi ce and on the fi eld, the Diamondbacks will unveil a brand new Spring Training facility when Cactus League play begins at the end of February. After spending years in Tucson, the Diamondbacks have decided to move northward. Many Scottsdale-area commuters have probably noticed the dusty haze that settled over the Loop 101 freeway just past the Via de Ventura exit over the past year. Well, that dust is about to settle down, and the Cactus League’s newest stadium will emerge out of the haze. Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, spring home of the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, is a new 11,000 square foot stadium located on Pima Road just south of the 101 on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Spring Training is the time for fans to really get to know their team. It is the time for questions to be answered and more quandaries to be made. In the spirit of this relationship, it only makes sense that the Diamondbacks would move closer to their largest fan base in the Phoenix area. Who will replace Mark Reynolds at the hot corner? Are any of this year’s relievers worth their weight in Vaseline? Can the Diamondbacks’ hitters set the Cactus League strikeout record? The answers to all of these questions and more just became a whole lot closer.
