When the active couple turned 60 last year, they chose to celebrate their birthdays with a trip to Great Britain. “Wanting to prove we weren’t over the hill, we decided to tackle the hills of England by hiking the country coast to coast,” Mandy said. Page 39 February 2011 By Kaley Kalil Last month, I gave you tips on how to ease the transition process when traveling or moving abroad. Now, I want to help you get there. Are you interested in meeting new people, learning a new culture and possibly a new language, all while making money with little or no bills? If you have a bachelor’s degree and are a native from an English-speaking country, you have a job waiting for you all over the world. Pick almost any country where a different language is spoken and you can get paid to work there as an English teacher. It really is that easy. I’ve done it. I’ve Continued on page 41 and there’s even some comic relief added in just the right places. There are some parts of the story that are a little predictable, and it’s not without a couple of holes, nor is it the most original. But the movie itself is so interesting that the rest fades into the background. Foy does a great job as the girl accused of being a witch. She barely says a thing, almost never raises her voice, and yet she can scare you senseless. In fact, all she has to do is give you a look and you’re shivering. The movie is dark, and there is plenty of blood, death and fi ghting, but it isn’t over- the-top dark. It’s creepy enough to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, but it won’t give people nightmares. Something else that isn’t overdone in this movie is the graphics. These days, so many movies overuse the graphics to the point where the story is lost. But in Season of the Witch , that doesn’t happen. Hoping to own this on DVD, I rate Season of the Witch 4 stars out of 5! The Green Hornet Director: Michel Gondry Actors: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, and Cameron Diaz Exceeding expectations, The Green Hornet is a good action fi lm that any teenage boy would love. This new fi lm, based on the radio show, follows the story of Britt Reid (Rogen), whose father’s sudden death lands him at the head of his late dad’s newspaper empire. After having lived a life of leisure and partying, it is dif fi cult for him to jump into life as a publisher. Things take an unexpected turn when Britt forms an unlikely friendship with his dad’s auto mechanic, Kato (Chou). After an unplanned fi ght with a gang trying to mug an innocent couple, the two decide they haven’t been reaching their full potential and that they should start fi ghting crime together. Britt comes up with the idea that they should do it posing as criminals -“Protecting the law by breaking it.” Britt’s new secretary, Lenore (Diaz), is to be credited for unknowingly helping Britt and Kato with their scheme by using her knowledge in the study of criminal minds. Britt uses his newspaper to spread the word about the Green Hornet, the newest addition to the criminal world. His toughest enemy is Chudnofsky (Waltz), an insane drug lord who’s jealous of all the attention the Green Hornet is getting. Watching the trailer, The Green Hornet doesn’t look that good. But once in the theater, the movie is enjoyable. It’s the typical comic-book-on-screen movie, but that’s a good thing. They managed to make it more like a comic book movie than a cheesy shoot ‘em up, and the line between the two becomes more blurred as time goes on. Like any action fi lm these days, The Green Hornet is not without explosions and shooting. However, there doesn’t seem to be an overdose of it like usual. Also, the dialogue is good and witty. There’s some comic relief that’s actually funny, and there’s some that isn’t. Waltz is great as Chudnofsky. He pulls off the insane, trigger-happy, egotistical bad guy with ease. Rogen and Chou work well as a team, and it’s nice that they’re not always (or usually) nice to each other. They do get in fi st fi ghts with each other every once in a while, managing to trash Britt’s house, and it seems to make their brother-like relationship more realistic. Overall, it was somewhere between good and great. Good sounds too low-key, but great seems to be stretching it a little. Either way, it was de fi nitely better than expected.
