But that’s not a bad thing – in fact, school starting for the Arcadia Titans is a great thing! Early August has a special atmosphere of nerves and excitement for the new school year. Here’s what some Titans are doing to get ready: The student body leaders, Jane Ord (president), Vivian Speyer (vice president), Braden Knaub (treasurer), and Adam Blais (secretary), are hard at work preparing Campcadia for the class of 2030. Campcadia is a special orientation day for incoming freshman to get to know the campus and each other. In collaboration with student government, Arcadia ambassadors and members of the National Honor Society will lead orientation for freshmen on August 7. went to a camp called The Spirit Consultants this summer. A highlight was the Michael Jackson skit created by varsity seniors. Here at the Titan Times, we have been preparing for expansion. Starting this fall, students will be able to grab their own copy of a full Titan Times newspaper right on campus! A TITAN IN DC This July, I was invited to attend the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in Washington, D.C. WJMC is a prestigious journalism event that invites high schoolers from all over the country to act as National Youth Correspondents. Hosted at George Mason University, these students receive a unique and hands- on journalism education from award- winning leaders in the field, international media outlets, and prominent figures. One such figure was AZ Senator Mark Kelly. I had a meeting scheduled with Senator Kelly to talk about our state, but Our football team has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. Throughout the summer, passing leagues and big man competitions have been going on to keep Titans strong and ready for any challenges coming their way. The Titans also traveled to Northern Arizona University for cooler temperatures and more practices. Arcadia cheer also unfortunately, duty called and our meeting was canceled. Instead, I received a wonderful tour of our nation’s Capital and got to speak with a few interns and members of Senator Kelly’s staff – many of whom graduated from Arizona high schools and colleges not too long ago. The biggest piece of advice I received is to talk to everybody; you never know who will help you in the future. I took that lesson to heart and made so many new friends and connections with the people who will be the future of journalism. Everything I learned that week will be taken back to Arcadia High School’s Titan Times. As the paper’s editor I plan to teach the other student writers and photographers how to accurately report the happenings of our school with the community at large. The Titan Times is only going to get better, and we can’t wait to share that with all of you! Welcome Back, Titans!
