24 JULY 2026 By Sherry Sklar When Biltmore Preparatory Academy students return in August, they will see their school being transformed around them. They will also see construction fencing along the west side of the campus, with viewing panels that let them track the project’s progress throughout the year. A 70-year-old campus is being rebuilt into a modern home for Biltmore Prep students, staff, and faculty, while everyone continues learning on-site as the renovation unfolds. The new campus will give Biltmore Prep’s dual-language immersion model a physical home, using color, texture, and shared spaces to support the daily movement between English and Spanish instruction. This redefined design will support the growing population, celebrate the school’s unique learning model, and reflect its identity. Four new buildings totaling 82,000 square feet of new space form the centerpiece of the project. The existing gymnasium, built in 2019, will be the only major structure retained as the rest of the campus is rebuilt from the ground up. A phased implementation will allow the campus to remain functional and give students the opportunity to witness the construction of a new school they helped create. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, with total completion expected in late fall 2027. Students are expected to transition to new classrooms for the 2027-28 school year. The new campus will expand capacity from nearly 500 students and 60 staff members to around 750 students and 75 staff members. “Our new spaces will honor who we are as a school while opening doors for future generations of Tigers to learn, connect, and lead in English and Spanish,” Principal Stephanie De Mar said. The project is funded through Creighton Elementary School District’s voter-approved $85 million bond program, which supports major facility improvements across the district, including the rebuild-in-place project at Biltmore Prep. Ben Parker, Creighton School District’s director of bond projects, is helping oversee the work with Superintendent Jay Mann, district leadership, SPS+ Architects, and McCarthy Construction. Students, teachers, families, and community members were instrumental in the design process. The district brought diverse perspectives into planning, ensuring that the school community had a voice in the redesign. Student input, gathered through the district’s leadership and the Creighton Kids Congress, helped shape several unique ideas. Teachers contributed valuable insights on layout and technology integration. The district hosted two community forums to share updates and gather direct feedback from families. “What excites me most about this rebuild is that the new campus will finally be as innovative as the teaching inside,” parent Emily Hughes said. A two-story middle school building will feature a modern media and learning center, STEM labs, a maker space, and music and arts classrooms. The new buildings will frame a central courtyard anchored by an outdoor learning stair that descends from the second story of the elementary building into the shared outdoor space. The new courtyard will host outdoor learning, assemblies, performances, and parent-teacher events. The updated admin building and cafeteria will serve as an anchor and a gathering place. “As a dual-language, Spanish-immersion school, we are especially excited to create a campus that celebrates and embraces language, culture, and the diverse experiences that make our community so special,” De Mar said.
