18 OCTOBER 2025 “G ratifying” is the word that Michael Golding uses to describe what he does for a living. “One of the most rewarding aspects of my practice is impacting people’s lives, and especially the adolescents in our community, then watching them go on and lead very happy lives,” said the 47-year-old maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Golding and his partner comprise Golding & Sabol - Oral and Facial Surgeons of Arizona, and they have served more than 20,000 patients since their founding in 2011. They specialize in wisdom teeth removal and implants, corrective jaw surgery, and complex facial trauma cases. After attending the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and then completing five years of residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Golding moved to Arizona in 2011 to start his professional life. He says some of the best advice he has ever received was being told to settle down in Arcadia. “This neighborhood is such a special place and we are blessed to call it home. It feels like a big, small town,” he said. Golding claims he always wanted to be a surgeon. “I knew what I wanted to do as early as the eighth grade. The seeds were planted when my dad introduced me to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and after shadowing him for a few years, that was that,” Golding said. Beyond his surgical skills, Golding is a dedicated husband and father, roles that he covets and elevates above all else that he does. He and his wife, Laura, have been married for 15 years, and they have two children: Olivia, 13, and William, 11. Golding is also passionate about community service, believing that it is more of a privilege than an obligation. He has served on several nonprofit boards, including Child Crisis Arizona and High-Country Adaptive Sports. In 2022, he was the Tournament Chairman of the WM Phoenix Open, raising a record amount of money for Arizona charities. Closer to home, Golding’s commitment to youth development is evident in his years as a volunteer coach. He has spent many seasons coaching his children in soccer, basketball and baseball. “Being on the sidelines with my kids is one of the greatest privileges,” he said. “Sports teach resilience, teamwork, and character – lessons that go far beyond the game.” Asked for his advice to those who may be thinking about going into medicine, and Golding pauses, perhaps considering the weight of his words on another’s choice. “I would tell anyone interested in medicine, and specifically surgery, to stay with it no matter what the obstacles. It’s a significant commitment with great sacrifice, especially early on in life, but the gratification of helping people is well worth it if you love it.” One of Golding’s simple pleasures is movies and two of his favorites are hero-centric classics: Rocky 4 and Braveheart . Not surprising, really, as the stars face significant challenges before prevailing in the end. Golding’s self-professed superpower is being a good listener. “That’s a simple but important skill that has served me well.” Michael Golding exemplifies what it means to go through life with incredible skills and an even larger heart.
