28 JULY 2025 T here’s always something new to discover at Lake Pleasant – and this summer, the surprises are bigger, bouncier, and splashier than ever. You don’t need a boat or a board to make waves. Just bring your sense of balance, a good dose of adventure and your sense of humor. Pleasant Harbor is now home to H2-Whoa, a floating waterslide that’s part of Whoa Island, which is a massive inflatable obstacle course that floats right on the water, turning the lake into a playground. “Whoa Island is the newest activity, and we’re excited about it,” Clint Gregory, CEO and co-owner of Boat Rentals of America, said. “You can run, jump, climb, bounce, and swing. It’s fun for all ages and a fantastic way for families to get in the water and play together.” From slipping across the I-beam to swinging Tarzan-style into the lake, the challenge is half the fun. The other half is falling in and with Arizona’s summer heat, there’s no better way to cool off. “It gets pretty toasty out here,” Gregory said. “So yeah, people are going to fall in – and they love it. You’re laughing the whole time, you’re getting soaked, and by the end of the 45-minute session, most people are ready for a rest.” Participants say the mix of fun and difficulty makes it unforgettable. “There are a couple of tough parts, like the IHOP and the I-beam, but it’s all part of the challenge,” one swimmer said. “Everybody’s running around, jumping, swinging. It’s a blast.” The best part is it’s designed for everyone. Whether you’re tall, small, or somewhere in between, at Whoa Island, even grandma and grandpa can join in. Lake Pleasant has long been a favorite for residents looking to escape the city. Just 45 minutes north of Phoenix, off Highway 74, Pleasant Harbor is a quick and easy day trip. “What’s not unique about Lake Pleasant?” Gregory said. “We’ve got water sports, hiking, and wildlife; you might spot mules, eagles, and hawks, and the lake itself feels like a warm bath in the summer. It’s an amazing place to spend the afternoon.” The Pleasant Harbor Marina, operated by Gregory and his team, serves as the lake’s central hub of activity. You can rent a jet ski and speed across the water or take it easy with a paddleboard or pontoon. Even sailboats and kayaks are available for a slower-paced outing under the desert sun. And when the fun works up your appetite, Dylan’s BBQ is just steps from the water, serving up smoked meats, cold drinks, and lakeside views worth lingering over. Beyond the action and adrenaline, it’s the natural beauty that keeps people coming back: the cactus-dotted hills, the desert blooms, and those unforgettable Arizona sunsets. Pleasant Harbor Marina isn’t just a dock. It’s a launchpad for memories, a gathering place for locals and visitors, and the heartbeat of Lake Pleasant’s ever-growing adventure scene. Just bring your sense of fun and let Lake Pleasant do the rest. pleasantharbor.com From cactus trails to floating fun: Summer adventure awaits Robin is the host and executive producer of the Arizona Highways Television , Saturdays and Sundays on CBS.
