MARCH 2025 32 As we welcome spring, let’s reflect on several important community initiatives and events that have happened so far in 2025. Here’s what’s on my mind: February was Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time to shed light on this troubling reality among adolescents. Studies show that 10 percent of teens report being victims of physical violence by a partner during the past year. This month serves as an opportunity to educate ourselves, support victims, and promote healthy relationships. We can make a difference by discussing the warning signs, teaching the importance of healthy relationships, and challenging the glamorization of toxic relationships in the media. Everyone has a role to play in supporting the next generation of young people. Our community continues to grow. Here are some key updates: Desert Foothills seat wall : The seat wall provides a comfortable and inviting space for the community to gather and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Mountain Vista park infield : This project enhances the recreational facilities in the park with a revamped infield, offering better experiences for visitors and sports enthusiasts. Pickleball court signs : New signage has been installed at the pickleball courts, improving the visibility and accessibility. Further signage will be added to the skate park, splash pad, and for directional guidance throughout the area. A heartfelt thanks goes to the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) for organizing an incredible Black History Month kickoff event. This celebration was a powerful reminder of the strength, perseverance, and brilliance of the community. It set the tone for a month filled with reflection, learning, and honoring the remarkable contributions black individuals have made throughout history. Black History Month is an opportunity for everyone to learn more, reflect, and contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable world. Thanks to organizations like NFBPA, we are reminded of the importance of celebrating and preserving this history while paving the way for future generations of leaders. Join us for a Coffee Chat at the Biltmore on March 28 at 7 a.m. to discuss community matters, connect with neighbors, and have a conversation over a cup of coffee.
