12 DECEMBER 2024 By Eliana Ganz Old Town Scottsdale is preparing for another spectacular holiday season. The city’s annual Scottsdazzle has returned for its ninth year, with food, art and music programs that last until New Year’s Eve. The month-long celebration features over 45 events, drawing thousands of attendees to revel in the magic. Angelica Cipullo, City of Scottsdale’s Marketing Program Manager, emphasizes that the event is not just about dazzling lights and delicious food – though those are plentiful – it’s about “bringing the community together and highlighting the businesses in Old Town.” The festivities kicked off on November 30 with a stunning tree-lighting ceremony and lively sing-along. Throughout the rest of the month, guests can look forward to a delightful array of outdoor movies, magic shows, small business sales, and opportunities to meet Santa Claus. More than half of the events are free and specifically designed to be family-friendly. For example, Holly Jolly DIY Decor, hosted by the Scottsdale Artists’ School, will provide a chance to create decorations for the home on Saturday, December 14. Scottsdazzle Strolls invites guests to walk through magical light displays surrounding the canal every Saturday in December. Cipullo said there will also be brand-new events this year, including Pancakes and Pajamas with Santa on December 14. At this event, Soleri Bridge will be transformed into a winter wonderland for families to enjoy breakfast with the man of the hour. The Entertainment District will come alive as Peppermint Plaza, featuring nine locations that are collaborating to showcase community spirit. Grownups can visit various establishments that will offer specially crafted cocktails. Light and Bark Candle Co. will host a winter candle-making class on the bridge, inviting participants to create a unique scent to enjoy well into the new year. Meanwhile, Barrio Queen will share culinary techniques with a delightful Jolly Tamale class. Adding to the festive spirit, Hotel Valley Ho’s restaurant, ZuZu, will unveil a Scottsdazzle-themed shake topped with an edible Christmas tree. At the heart of the season is the idea of giving. To highlight this, many events will benefit local charities like Not My Kid and the Scottsdale STARS. Old Town businesses will also participate in the “Shop Scottsdale” event, offering special prices and discounts. Once all your shopping is done, you can head to the free gift-wrapping station and win a chance to trade receipts for a free tote bag. Dancing trio “The Jingle Bells” will also appear, spreading cheer as they dance through the town. These vibrant events promise to fill the community with the spirit of the season and create joyful memories for all who attend.
