44 NOVEMBER 2024 By Graysen Reno-Nunn Titan Times founder Ahva Ghazanfari was a junior at Arcadia High when one of her dreams became a reality. Now a year older, she has written many stories and expanded her dream of a school paper to one the whole Arcadia community reads in each month of the Arcadia News. The column shares stories that may not have otherwise been told while also providing high school students experience in the journalism industry. “I think that more kids in high school should get out and start exploring what they like to do outside the classroom,” co-editor and writer Maya Campbell said. “Some kids like to write but essay writing is not for them, so I think that opportunities like this are a really good way to get involved.” The students of Arcadia High also get to experience something that many kids these days don’t encounter in the digital era: a physical newspaper. The stories are personal and feature other high schoolers, making it a great way for them to get involved. Titan Times has only grown from the beginning. “We weren’t a club until last year, so we really pulled it together and found that we want to write and we want to make these stories to get them out in the world,” head writer Millie Guzman said. “Even though we’re doing it through Arcadia News, we are doing it in the community. I think that it shows we are dedicated and passionate about what we do and we want to do more of it.” Titan Times is popular with students and parents alike. The monthly publication keeps parents informed of goings- on at school while students get an in-depth look at the community. “Something that stands out for Titan Times is the fact that it’s written by Arcadia students and then it goes out to the greater community,” Ahva said. “The people in our neighborhood get a little taste of what it’s like to be a student at Arcadia High. They get all of these stories that they might not have asked for. The students are really reaching a bigger community.” This monthly column has become more than just a paper – it’s a place for the community to get information from writers who are just starting out and excited for what the future holds.
