11 AUGUST 2023 By Ann Stone A group of local men are using their passion and persuasion to raise millions annually for children’s charities in the Valley of the Sun. The Scottsdale 20/30 Club – founded in 1987 – experienced a rebranding in July 2022 and is now known as The Saguaros. Despite the name change, the mission remains the same: Raise money to assist tax-exempt organizations that aid children and their families in improving the quality of life in Arizona. Like the signature cacti in Phoenix that provide safety and security for various desert species, the Saguaros have a strong history of playing a significant role in this community. Over the past three years, the organization has raised more than $3 million for children’s charities. The two major fundraisers for The Saguaros are the Olympiad and NiteFlite. The Olympiad (held annually at Scottsdale Stadium) challenges area real estate professionals in fundraising and athletic events. NiteFlite includes a golf event on November 10 at McCormick Ranch and a Gala on November 11. Some golfers may be enticed by the five- person-per-group format, play with the pros holes, contests for the longest drive and closest to the pin, and a prize for the top team. This year, however, the team with the lowest 18-hole score receives five opportunities for a hole-in-one hit to win $1 million. Many businesses contribute to the success of this annual event with the opportunity to sponsor holes, tees, greens, party tents and more. Individuals who want to donate can purchase raffle tickets or donate online. In May, The Saguaros held their annual Sentinels Awards, which included inviting charity partners to a luxurious meal to recognize them for their accomplishments and to distribute checks to help support their organizations. The gathering empowers various organizations that contribute positive change to the community. With up to 50 philanthropic leaders, The Saguaros routinely work with and contribute to local children’s charities, such as the Boys & Girls Club, Playworks, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Love Up Foundation, Teen Lifeline, Free Arts, WiggedOut, and New Pathways for Youth. Prospective members volunteer for several months and can be voted in as members. Jonah Joffe, the newly elected vice president of membership, said, “There’s nothing quite like giving.” He explained his fulfillment as he worked with others to fill cars with gifts for their Children’s Cancer Network holiday event. “It’s powerful to see the impact you are having on the community,” Joffe said. He said that The Saguaros are “basically family” – a group of men passionate about helping others. In addition to supporting charities, the group helps members to grow. He joked that the group is really just a bunch of men with Type A personalities who work together to accomplish more each year – and give back to Arizona in the process. saguaros.com The Saguaros: living by giving SCOTTSDALE FASHION SQUARE 6828 E.
