No matter how you like to celebrate Independence Day: hangin’ by the pool, sporting red, white and blue socks (if you’re wondering, the answer is yes, I do own a pair), or going all-out with the fireworks, Arcadia News has you covered with events happening all over the Valley. In our backyard, the Arcadia Fourth of July parade – a 26-year tradition – is gearing up to celebrate with decorated cars and bikes, snacks from local eateries, and even a visit from the Phoenix Fire Department to keep things cool. We’ve got a story on America’s favorite pastime, as Arcadia Little League’s Home Run Derby kicked off the summer. This year’s winner was Carter Lampe, who hit 21 home runs in 90 seconds. “It felt great to win and I was proud I accomplished it,” Carter said. “It was so fun to see how many home runs all my friends had and all of us celebrating together. My home run secret? To have fun and make every swing count!” Local umpire Eric Newman was also celebrated at the end of the season. He’s been on the field for over ten years, so Arcadia families decided to celebrate his career with a gift to say thank you for his dedication and love. I like to “nurse” on my owner’s earlobe, I find really great hiding places and, as you can clearly tell from my photo, I am exceptional at cat Tetris! -Harmony F. 3. Paloma is a 3-year-old Siberian Husky Australian Cattle Dog and has lived in New York City, Atlanta, and now Arcadia. She has one eye that is half blue and half brown. She loves to swim, hike, attend parties and has quite a social life! -Arianna S. 4. Lily is a 6-years-young Doberman and has been a member of our family for five years. Lily is a rescue and the most amazing friend. She was found wandering the streets, nothing but skin and bones and very timid. She was obviously abused, but love, food and traveling around the U.S. chasing butterflies has acted as therapy for this certified support animal.
