TROOP 6 CELEBRATES NEW EAGLES By Mallory Gleich Five Scouts from Arcadia’s Boy Scout Troop 6 were awarded Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout in February. Read on to learn more about them: CARTER BRUNS Brophy Prep junior. He has been in Scouts since fifth grade. What did you do for your Eagle Project? I constructed miniature PVC play gyms for the babies in the NICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, which in turn helped the physical therapists at PCH. How did it feel to receive your Eagle Scout? It’s been a great journey that I’ve been working on for a long time, so I feel very proud and accomplished to earn my Eagle. What was your favorite part of Scouts? My favorite part is the community you gain and the people you meet – and, as a Type 1 diabetic, camping trips are different – but still fun! Plans for the future? I would like to start my own business and have a family. Fun fact about Carter: Long-time readers of the Arcadia News might know Carter as “Hambone” – a star in the hit column “Straight Up with a Twist” that was penned by his father from 1997-2012. LUCA BARTOLETTI Saguaro High senior. He has been in Scouts since kindergarten. What did you do for your Eagle Project? I worked with my school to replace lost foliage in an empty lot on the front side of campus. Years of summer storms uprooted and destroyed any plants that were originally there, so as part of my project, I raised money to purchase irrigation equipment and desert plants. We also brought in a rock and painted it with the school colors. The project’s goal was to increase the school’s curb appeal and natural atmosphere and to increase campus biodiversity. How did it feel to receive your Eagle Scout? It was very rewarding. It was an extremely gratifying experience to have accomplished a goal I set 11 years prior and have been working toward ever since. What is your favorite part of Scouts? All the fun and exciting outings we go on and the unique opportunities we get to experience. Plans for the future? My future goals are to graduate from ASU Barrett with a degree in Aerospace engineering. JAXSON MILLER AHS junior. He has been involved in Scouts since 2012. What did you do for your Eagle Project? My Eagle project consisted of building 11 feeder boxes for Liberty Wildlife. These boxes train birds of prey to catch food on their own before being released into the wild. How did it feel to receive your Eagle Scout? I was very happy that I was able to achieve Eagle Scout and finally get all the work done. Favorite part of Scouts? Camping with my friends! Plans for the future? I plan on attending Arizona State University after graduation. PETER MITCHELL AHS senior. He has been in Scouts since first grade. What did you do for your Eagle Project? My project was for Home Fur Good Animal Shelter. We installed new hose bibs to increase the water flow in the shelter’s outdoor area. I also raised funds to supply new gravel for the yard. How did it feel to receive your Eagle Scout? I felt honored. My family have been Eagles for many generations, and I was so proud to join my fellow Scouts. Plans for the future? I am going to The University of Arizona Franke Honors College after high school, and plan to go into a STEM field. LUCAS LE AHS junior. He has been in Scouts since fifth grade . What did you do for your Eagle Project? I installed five raised garden beds at the Feeding Students USA headquarters at the Monte Vista Church-Nazarene. I thought that since they are a local food bank, having fresh produce would be a great aid for them. How did it feel to receive your Eagle Scout? It was a pleasing and proud moment for me. Plans for the future? I plan on going to college out of state, preferably in California, because of the beautiful weather. Fun fact about Lucas: He hates tomatoes! The Central District of the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently presented several awards to local Scouting programs. The council holds an annual volunteer recognition ceremony for outstanding Scout Troops, Packs, Leaders and Scouts. Arcadia Troop 6 shared the honor of “Troop of the Year” with two nearby Troops: 201 of Scottsdale and 041 from Central Phoenix. Three adult leaders were presented with the high honor of “Scouter(s) of the Year”: Rose Miller from Troop 6, Brad Beebe from Pack 6, and Robert Humphrey from Troop 201. Arcadia Troop 6 has produced 227 Eagle Scouts since its establishment in 1935. The Troop meets weekly at Prince of Peace Church. For more, go to arcadiatroop6.org.
