4 MARCH 2023 EDITOR’S NOTE One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2023 was to put down the phone, walk away from the computer, and shut off the television. Are you sensing a theme? I’ve been trying to limit my screen time – and even though I’m using a screen to write this note, I’m happy to report that I’ve been doing a great job so far! How are your New Year’s resolutions holding up? March is the perfect month to get outdoors and enjoy all of the things our neighborhood has to offer – farmer’s markets being one of those things. We’ve got a list of Valley farmer’s markets inside this edition and a spotlight on a new business that promotes checking in with your mental health and wellness. Of course, it wouldn’t be a March edition without a shout-out to March 17. This year’s “Greenest Day in the Desert” is brought to us by the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Faire, an event celebrating 40 years in the Valley. We also checked in with one of Arcadia’s favorite mailmen, Robert Emery, who kicked off his 2023 with a winning submission to the Tucson Film Festival for his film “Bottled Up Poison.” Arcadia News is happy to present the 2023 Arcadia Home & Design edition, where readers will find stories about mocktails, spring cleaning and The Shady Dell, a trailer court that transports guests to the past – with a little present mixed in. We are so excited to share it with you. Keep an eye out for next month’s edition. We’ll be sharing the Arcadia News Summer Camp Guide with some fun stuff going on this summer. Happy March, and thank you for reading Arcadia News! — Mallory Gleich UPCOMING THEMES: No one has better coverage in the areas of Arcadia, Biltmore and the Camelback Corridor. APRIL Outdoor / Camp Guide MAY Celebrating Moms JUNE Summer “May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.” – Irish blessing 1. Riley is a 13-year-old chocolate lab that I rescued at nine months old. She has been a therapy dog for many years until recently retiring at age 12. She visited hospitals, schools, hospice and her favorite was volunteering at the airport. She loves to hang out in the front yard and watch traffic and people pass – I can leave her there for hours! – A. Fogarty 2. This beautiful girl is Karma. Karma is a three-year-old Doberman pinscher. We met her when she was only four days old and immediately fell head over heels. She knows many tricks, including how to whisper. You can often find us walking in the neighborhood in the late afternoon. – A. Hosack 3. Our Boston terrier, Gunner, is 11 years old. We got him at nine weeks old, when our daughter was in preschool. He has been her sleeping partner since, as no one else can sleep with him because he snores! He loves to walk around the house with his football and try to keep up with our 4-year-old Boston terrier. People laugh because he snorts and sounds like a pig. He puts a smile on our faces every day. – B. Buckler 4. My name is Nigel Riley. I am a 4.5-year-old mini-labradoodle. I have lived in the Arcadia area since I was adopted at eight weeks old. I have two human sisters who I love a lot. They walk me all over to see the sights and visit with my friends, Autumn, Finn, Llave and Sweetpea. – E.
