4 FEBRUARY 2023 EDITOR’S NOTE The 57th annual Super Bowl is being held this month in Glendale. Excitement is palpable from all corners of the Valley – from the preceding themed events (find some in our calendar) to the parties and snacks (find some in our Dining Scoop) – we’re all ready to celebrate, even if the Cardinals aren’t in the game. Also happening in February is the 69th annual Western Week, which celebrates the history and culture of Scottsdale with an art walk, Hashknife Pony Express arrival, Arizona Indian Festival and – the most popular event – the Parada del Sol and Trail’s End Festival. “Western Week is about celebrating the city while educating guests about the cultures that exist today, that help make the community so unique and vibrant – all while having an Old Western style good time,” Director of Tourism Karen Churchard said. Football isn’t the only sport in town this month – Spring Training starts soon, and we’ve got a guide to all the stadiums so you can plan your baseball outings early. We’ve also unveiled a new monthly column that focuses on the furry, fuzzy, scaly and cuddly four (or two!) legged members of your families. Toby is an 11-year-old schnauzer/ poodle/yorkie (I think) that I brought home from the shelter. He loves to be the center of attention and hang out with me at the pottery studio. – Marilyn C. 2. Odin is a 2.5-year-old golden retriever. We brought him home October 2020 after a tough year when we lost our sweet maltipoo Fiona and my father. He quickly brought us joy through his cuddles and sweet personality. He loves walks, hiking and belly rubs. – Tiffany P. 3. Zoe is originally from the Northwest Territories. We rescued her in Vancouver in July 2019 and are all still adapting to the desert climate. Zoe is a snow dog – part husky/shepherd and a bit of wolf. She misses the snow but will still try to lay around in the sun. Zoe loves all the bunnies in our neighborhood, hates the coyotes and is not quite sure about the bobcats! – Heather M. 4. Pork chop is a 3.5-year-old Old English bulldog, and at 86 pounds, he’s a bit overweight! We have had him since he was 12 weeks old. Molly is a 2.5-year-old Old English bulldog. We’ve had her since she was four months old. They are uncle and niece. These two have the best personalities and are the politest beggars. They love their bellies rubbed, going on walks and love attention. – Amber F.
