36 FEBRUARY 2023 By Tallulah Board Walking through a store in February can leave any person overwhelmed with the presence of Valentine’s Day. Pink candy, cutesy cards and stuffed animals litter the aisles. However, this month is home to more than just Cupid’s favorite day. Below are a few ideas for some holidays that everyone can celebrate! NATIONAL GETUP DAY February 1 Start your month by celebrating National Get Up Day on February 1. Created by the U.S. Figure Skating Association in 2014, this day is about keeping going, no matter what setbacks you may have encountered. Much like the figure skaters who often face a fall on the ice, almost everyone has experienced setbacks in their career, school or life in general. Get Up Day encourages people to share those hard times and inspire others with how they persevered. Share your stories across social media with #GetUpDay. WORLD CANCER DAY February 4 World Cancer Day is a day to spread awareness and support. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 1.9 million new cancer cases were diagnosed and 609,360 cancer deaths happened in the United States in 2022. Getting involved can be as simple as sharing a personal story on social media using the hashtag #WeCanICan. NATIONAL PIZZA DAY February 9 According to Global Newswire, the global pizza market is expected to grow by $51.38 billion from 2022 to 2026. This one is easy to celebrate – go ahead and enjoy some pizza, and don’t forget to post about it on social media (#NationalPizzaDay). There are many free pizza deals – type “pizza day deals 2023” into Google to find businesses taking part. GLOBAL MOVIE DAY February 11 Each year, the second Saturday of February is marked as Global Movie Day, the perfect day to see something new and exciting on the big screen. This year, newly released movies include Knock at The Cabin , 80 for Brady , and a 25th-anniversary re-release of Titanic . If you don’t feel like going out, this holiday also coincides with the Oscars, creating a perfect excuse to get together with friends and family and have a movie marathon. STATEHOOD DAY IN ARIZONA February 14 Aside from celebrating people in your life on February 14, celebrate where you live, as the state of Arizona has its 111 birthday this year. On February 14, 1912, we officially became a state and have since become home to over seven million people. Gather all your friends and eat a Sonoran hot dog to celebrate, or enjoy a nice hike in one of Arizona’s 22 national parks or monuments. INCONVENIENCE YOURSELF DAY February 22 Though its title may be discouraging, Inconvenience Yourself Day is about doing good for others. Founded in 2006, this day encourages appreciation and giving back to those less fortunate. To participate, one can do something as simple as taking two minutes to reach out to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. It may make a huge difference! Inconvenience Yourself Day is to think of others and the small and big ways your actions can make a positive change in the world. NO BRAINER DAY February 27 As the month ends, enjoy a peaceful Monday on No Brainer Day. The point is to relax and do all the small tasks piled up. However, rule number one is that everything requires little energy or thought. Let your brain switch off, enjoy a day off, and encourage those around you to treat themselves equally.
