22 NOVEMBER 2022 S ome people can’t wait for Fridays – and dread the “Sunday scaries” that eventually lead to Monday. Greg Hoyt is not one of those people. He looks forward to the start of a new week and the opportunity to return to work. Growing up, Greg had not one but two paper routes in junior high and would pull a lawn mower behind his bike so he could mow lawns after school. “My dad was a hard worker and had a big influence on me. Though he could be rough, he was a straight shooter and taught me the importance of living your life with integrity, honesty and character,” Greg said. Greg and his younger sister grew up in southern California. While attending junior college, he started a drywall and painting business. He soon realized that the building trades weren’t for him, but it did pique his interest in the real estate industry. He enrolled in ASU’s business school, which would lay the foundation for working in, and eventually taking ownership of, California-Arizona Industrial Properties. “My dad’s dream was to have me – and eventually my three boys – run his company, and that will probably happen,” Greg said with unmistakable pride. “Wade is already onboard, and Briggs and Chase will hopefully fill some sort of a role in the future.” Greg admits that real estate development is a very cyclical business, with downturns and recessions around every corner. “I’ve seen them all, and I firmly believe that change creates opportunities,” he said. When Greg isn’t bouncing back and forth between his two offices, he loves to golf and hike mountains here and around the world. “I just love being outdoors, no matter where I am or what I’m doing,” he explained. Greg admits that high on his bucket list is to play a round of golf at Augusta National in Georgia, home of the fabled Master’s Tournament. Another interest of this hard-charging entrepreneur is philanthropy. His family created the RS Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation in 1998, and they have been raising money and making grants to assist underserved youth with a wide array of educational opportunities ever since. “It’s not about the money. It’s about making an impact,” Greg said. He and his wife, Becca, have lived in Arcadia for many years and said, “it is the hands-down best family environment you could find anywhere. I wish I had grown up in Arcadia. That’s how much I like it.” Something Greg is pretty sure no one knows about him is his passion for the kitchen. “I love cooking, and some of my favorite dishes are anything on the grill or Italian food.” Another personal interest is staying up with what’s going on around him. “I’m a loyal newspaper reader. I read lots of papers, but the Wall Street Journal is my go- to for what’s going on in the world.” When asked what advice he would impart to the next generation, Greg pauses to reflect on something his father said to him many times over the years: “Success without honesty and integrity is a failure.” Greg Hoyt Success without honesty and integrity is a failure.
