26 JUNE 2022 By Jennifer Marshall Area schools celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week from May 2 through May 6 with great fanfare this year. Thank you, teachers, for all that you do for our students and community! ARCADIA HIGH According to PTO Teacher Appreciation Co-Chairs Suzanne Cassano and Linda Tinsley, Arcadia staff enjoyed a fun-filled week. Leo’s Ice Cream Truck made an appearance on Monday, and on Tuesday, the treats continued with a specialized snack bar. Wednesday featured an all-American picnic lunch, and Friday closed out the week with the carnival event, featuring games like twister pong and fun prizes. BROPHY PREP The Broncos celebrate their faculty throughout the year, rather than during the first week in May: “Our parent organizations treat faculty and staff to breakfast once each quarter; plus, they host a really nice event for us in December for the holidays,” Director of Communications Kathy Mabry said. ECHO CANYON The elementary school offered daily treats and refreshments, in addition to a raffle where teachers and staff won gift baskets and cards. Each day had a theme: from Owl Post and puns to superhero notes and flowers. There were also plenty of snacks to go around: a make-your-own trail mix, popcorn and candy bar, donuts, “thirsty” Thursday beverages (juice, soda, iced teas!) and a catered BBQ lunch on Friday. Raffles included a health and wellness basket, dinner on us basket, a summer reading basket and summer road trip basket. “Our PTO went above and beyond to recognize the staff during teacher appreciation week,” Principal Kat Hughes said. “We truly appreciated the effort they put in to helping us feel the love!” HOPI ELEMENTARY On the Saturday preceding Teacher Appreciation Week, each class decorated homeroom teachers and additional staff members’ doors. May 2 was the great “door decoration reveal” – the look of joy on teacher’s faces made it all worth it. On Tuesday, students made cards and drew pictures for staff members. On Wednesday, students each brought a flower to their teachers, and on Thursday, students came bearing gift cards. To close out Teacher Appreciation Week, students picked an item from the teachers’ wish list and presented them with a small gift. Throughout the week, the Staff Appreciation Committee furnished lunch and other treats. INGLESIDE MIDDLE “Each day, teachers were provided with a catered breakfast or lunch hosted by school families, the Dad’s Club, the PTO and Community Specialist Leticia Pereda. Doors were decorated by our Ingleside Ambassadors,” Ingleside Principal Dr. Junior Michael said. TAVAN ELEMENTARY “We celebrated our teachers with a western theme, ‘Tavan teachers are the best in the west.’ Students were encouraged to celebrate their homeroom and specials teachers for five days,” PTO President Cheri Pierce said. At the beginning of the year, each teacher is asked to fill out a Whisker’s on Wildcats Favorite Thing List [a borrowed line from the Sound of Music ’s ‘These Are Few of My Favorite Things’]. Students could bring in an item from the list, a handwritten note or even a sweet hand-drawn picture of a memory they have from the year. “Our PTO celebrated teachers with breakfast, lunch, grab-bag snacks, a special soda shop drink and gift card giveaway to end the week,” Pierce said. VERITAS PREP The faculty was treated to breakfast to kick off the week’s events. Then, on Thursday, teachers received “movie treats,” and on Friday? Morning goodies! Students were encouraged to write thank you notes to their teachers, which were included in gift bags for each teacher at the end of the week. XAVIER PREP Teacher Appreciation Week was five days of special recognition and thanks. It began with a catered lunch for the staff. A few teachers – whose time at Xavier had come to an end, with retirement set to begin – were introduced and given standing ovations. “Throughout the week, there were special treats, and it was a time that students showed appreciation for their teachers. Many sweets were involved!” Marketing Director Lisa Zuba said. Showing some love for our neighborhood educators Xavier’s Jenny James, Jennifer Weiland, Rob Hendrickson, Ann-Marie Hyland, Claire Yablong, Eva Becker, Alison Mead and Cara Gillem at the “Down the Yellow Brick Road” themed luncheon. Ingleside decorated teachers’ doors. AHS supplied faculty with a picnic-themed lunch. Veritas showered staff with themed cookies.
