The pair explained that concerts are the runway for musicians and music lovers. “You can show off your fan merch, strut in inspired outfits, and add a unique flare,” Stump said. When the two started making jean jackets inspired by the decorated outfits of the 80s to wear to shows, they were approached by concertgoers who wanted to know where they could get one. That is how Grave Danger Co. was created. Grave Danger is an online clothing shop focused on creating hand-painted and custom jackets and flannels based on the customer’s vision. Stump and Ognjanovic work with clients to create the outer wear, taking weeks at a time to research, listen to specific artists and sketch out ideas. “We sit down with a bottle of wine and listen to – if it’s based on a musician – that artist for a while to get proper inspiration and to put ourselves in our customer’s shoes to see what they might want,” Ognjanovic said. “That’s why it takes quite a bit of time. We truly try to capture what the artist, musician or actor would want on a jacket.” Some of their hand-painted wares have been inspired by Bob Marley, Marilyn Monroe and Elton John. “I recently did a [Mexican painter] Frida Kahlo-inspired jacket, which was so fun,” Stump said. “That was for my mom, who is an art teacher and is my number one inspiration for being an artist. I always looked up to her artist-wise, so making that for her was very special.” Stump and Ognjanovic recently moved to Arizona from New York, and in doing so, their business skyrocketed. While Arizona and the Big Apple are two very different places, the neighborhood vibes stood out the most. “One of the first things we noticed about Arizona was the sense of community,” Ognjanovic said. “We’ve been trying to get involved with local people and events to show them what we do. Eventually, we’ll be opening a brick-and-mortar location. This state has been great to us and our business, and we’re thankful for that.” Along with opening a storefront, Stump said they would like to be a part of more farmer’s markets, swap meets and vintage clothing meet-ups.
