24 MARCH 2022 Little O’s Situated in the former dry cleaners next to O.H.S.O. is the brand-new Little O’s Arcadia Market, opened by Jon Lane and the O.H.S.O. team in February. The menu has a smorgasbord of options, including breakfast items like a ham and cheese croissant and mini donuts. “Our donuts are handcrafted and funky,” Lane said. “We have a cookie monster donut with blue sprinkles and a cookie topping, a hot-Cheeto dusted one, and a ‘dirt’ one like the childhood dessert with the gummy worm!” Lunch and dinner options include sandwiches, salads, burgers and pizza. The Little O’s menu is unique in that folks can grab and go, grab and stay or get full service. There will also be a retail spot with local beer and wine for sale. As far as the most popular items for adults, Lane said coffee in the morning and to-go pizzas. “They’re simple, thin-crust and priced affordably for the neighborhood. Also, the new salads from my wife’s restaurant, PV Pie, are popular,” Lane said. “In most of Arizona, you don’t have that canal presence, where you can bike or walk up, bring your dog, go for a long walk. This is our new place. We want it to be really comfortable.” littleosmarket.com Kura Sushi Kura Sushi first opened in 2008 as a Japan-based revolving sushi chain. Worldwide, there are over 500 restaurants. Here in the U.S., there are 35, and in Arizona, there are two – one in Phoenix at the Camelback Colonnade (near 20 th St. and Camelback Road), which opened in December, and another in Chandler. “Kura serves authentic Japanese cuisine through a revolving sushi service model,” PR Supervisor Lauren Murakami said. “We offer over 140 authentic Japanese dishes made with fresh, premium ingredients, from nigiri, specialty cold and hot rolls to crispy rice, ramen and desserts.” Hajime “Jimmy” Uba is the president and chief executive officer of Kura Sushi USA, Inc. He joined the parent company, Kura Sushi, Inc., in 2000. During his tenure, Kura grew from approximately 30 to 180 restaurant locations. “Some of our most popular choices are seared salmon Japanese mayo, real crab California roll, golden crunchy roll, caterpillar roll, tonkatsu ramen, crispy chicken, ten jyu (shrimp and vegetable tempura with sauce over a bowl of rice) and taiyaki ice cream,” Murakami said. The most unique aspect of the restaurant is the delivery – guests can choose their meals from a revolving belt that goes around the restaurant. “Express belts essentially serve as a sushi highway, where guests can place an order on their tableside touch panel and have it delivered directly from the kitchen to their table. It gives a sense of constant motion and excitement,” Murakami said. Oh, and there are prizes, too. The Bikkura Pon Prize System is comprised of a prize machine, touch panel and plate disposal slot at every table in the restaurant that is connected via sensors. The touch panel registers the number of green and red plates dispensed into the plate disposal slot. After every five plates, a short animation plays on the touch panel, and after every fifteen, a prize is dispensed. kurasushi.com By Mallory Gleich asuforyou.asu.edu What’s next in learning?
