36 DECEMBER 2021 By Sabrina Proffitt In a blue dress with a bouquet in hand and a sash around her shoulders, Miss Arcadia – also known as Faith Phares – has earned the crown and the title of United States of America’s 2022 Miss Arizona. Along with her queen sisters: United States of America’s (USOA) Teen, Ms. and Mrs. Arizona, Phares will be heading to nationals next year, where the group will be competing for the titles of Teen, Miss, Ms. and Mrs. America. Phares was crowned on October 24 and shared the news on her social media accounts the following day. She said that she felt like it was a dream but then realized that she had really won Miss Arizona. “I have been working hard for the past year to prepare, whether it was physical preparation or to elevate my platform. I’m really excited to represent Arizona this year,” she said. Phares added that she plans to continue expanding and joining forces with other nonprofits in the Valley while teaming up with her other ‘sisters’ in Arizona to make a difference, “as best as we can throughout our year.” As Miss Arizona, Phares hopes to spread awareness about her platform dedicated to helping homeless veterans in the Valley. She said she often helps veterans by making “bare necessity” bags and passing them out to homeless veterans she finds while driving around the neighborhood. “These bags may consist of blankets, food, toiletries, toothbrush, combs, sunscreens, some food items,” Phares said. “For women, sanitary items and those kinds of things. I put them together and drive around with them in my car and hand them out to any homeless veterans that I see out on the streets.” Phares wants women to know that the competition isn’t all about looks but that USOA’s pageants specifically are aimed at empowering women and helping them become the most authentic and best versions of themselves. “I think there’s a lot of stereotypes around pageants like it’s a beauty queen contest and the prettiest girl wins, but that’s not the case,” Phares said. “Our organization looks at who you are as a person, what you want to do for your community, and they want to help further your future by doing community services. It’s about what you want to do with your title; that you’re doing your best to represent your state.” Phares and the rest of the USOA contestants will head to Las Vegas for President’s Day weekend in February 2022 to compete for the United States of America crowns in the Teen, Miss, Ms. and Mrs. categories.
