28 JULY 2021 By Mallory Gleich This coming school year, Ingleside Middle School will add a fresh face to its campus. Junior Michael has been named the school’s new principal. Born in East Africa, Michael moved with his family to the United States when he was a young boy. Since then, he’s spent his life in North Phoenix, attending schools in the Paradise Valley Unified School District – with a short stint in Colorado while completing his undergraduate degree. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with an emphasis on education from Western Colorado University, his master’s in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and his doctor of education (EdD) in leadership and innovation from Arizona State University. Before coming to Ingleside, Michael was the assistant principal at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, and prior to that was dean of students at Horizon High and a math teacher at North Canyon High School. “I had been looking to move to central Phoenix or the Arcadia area for a long time and working at Ingleside will be more of a reason to move, sooner rather than later,” Michael said. “I have had an interest in joining SUSD due to its tradition of academic excellence, location and specifically the community that IMS serves.” After three rounds of interviews, Michael was hired for the position in June. Now, he’s excited to instill a love for working with students and building positive relationships at IMS. “Classroom instr uction should be heavily influenced by the collaborative work of professional lear ning communities, where our teachers leverage each other’s skillsets and experiences to select and teach the essential standards,” Michael said. “There is also great need for social-emotional learning, and I believe it is going to be even more important moving forward.” Michael said he plans to build on the existing successes at IMS and bring instructional leadership to grow academics, arts and athletics. “I cannot wait to meet our students, staff, parents and community members. There is a lot of work to prepare for 2021-2022, and I am excited to collaborate with the amazing staff at IMS to ensure a successful school year.” When Michael is not working, he enjoys spending time with his loved ones, lounging on his patio (“When it’s not 110 degrees,” he added), or going out to eat. He also likes to read and play his acoustic guitar – one of his favorite possessions. Ingleside has a new principal Junior Michael Backpacks 4 Kidz 7801 N.
