26 MAY 2021 By Ray Artigue Shannon Keller grew up in a large, lively family that she credits as shaping who she is today. One of six children and fourth in line, she learned early on to roll with the punches. Literally! “It was crazy growing up with three sisters and two brothers, all with strong personalities, but it taught me to grow a thick skin and take what life throws at you,” the Midwest transplant said. Her father was an advertising executive, and that influenced Keller as well. Even as a youngster, she always thought she would pursue a marketing career. After graduating from Loyola University in Maryland with a degree in communications, Keller had stints with public relations agencies in Chicago, L.A. and Phoenix. One of her first jobs in PR was working on the ‘Got Milk?’ campaign. It took her from Maine to Miami, donning the iconic milk mustache as the campaign spokesperson at every stop along the way. Today, Keller serves as chief marketing officer for True Food Kitchen restaurant brand. “While there’s no real playbook for a CMO, I’ve found that to be effective, you must find the balance between growing sales, growing your brand and growing your people,” Keller said. “Having an open heart and being present for your team is so important, now more than ever.” In her role, Keller has helped grow the restaurant brand, founded in 2008, from 11 restaurants in 2015 to 37 restaurants today, with plans for more locations this year and beyond. “I love my job and was fortunate to come on board when True Food was in high-growth mode, which allowed me to introduce this concept to so many new markets,” Keller said. “Since technology is the engine that drives how we’re reaching the consumer, we continue to innovate on this front to stay relevant.” When she isn’t working, Shannon and her husband, Rick, stay busy raising their two- year-old son, Zane. She admits that parenting can be “messy, frustrating and downright overwhelming” but is quick to point out that motherhood is her crowning achievement. “No matter what, nothing I do in life will ever be as great as being Zane’s mom. He is my life’s work and my legacy, and it doesn’t get much better than that,” she said. As residents of Arcadia, her family loves meeting other young families and sharing bike rides or strolls. “Arcadia is reminiscent of my hometown and childhood, which inspires me to slow down, be present and celebrate the little joys with my family.” When asked what the title of her autobiography would be, she said, “In Good Company.” “I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without the awesome people in my inner circle – mentors, teachers, family and friends – who have challenged me and pushed me to be better,” Keller said. “My life is the sum of the people who have inspired me, challenged me and elevated me.” Shannon Keller My life is the sum of the people who have inspired me.
