25 MAY 2021 By Mallory Gleich Touting members such as Barry Goldwater, Charles Lindbergh and honorary member Frank Sinatra, the Active 20/30 Club has made a name for itself both worldwide and here in the Valley. The club’s motto is “Youth, to be served, must serve,” which explains their mission, as well. This group’s focus is about being active in the community and helping raise money for children’s charities in Arizona. The Scottsdale branch was founded in the late 1980s. “The men that founded our club recognized a need to give back to local children. This still stands true today as the men of this club continue to grow together to meet the children’s needs,” Chairman Chris Nace said. The Scottsdale Men’s 20/30 Club comprises nearly 50 young professional men who work together to raise money through two events they hold every year: Agents Benefiting Children/Brokers for Kids and NiteFlite. Agents Benefiting Children (ABC) is an event where teams of residential real estate professionals fundraise and compete against each other in a field day called the Olympiad. This year, the Olympiad is being held on May 14 at Scottsdale Stadium. “The idea for the Olympiad is over 20 years old and was first formed by club members from that era,” Nace said. “It was initially a commercial real estate event and has since grown to the residential sector of the market as well.” The commercial real estate side of the event is called Brokers for Kids (BFK). This group also has teams that compete against each other, both on the fundraising front and on the field. “The event is a ton of fun. My favorite part is the dodgeball game, which is the final contest of the Olympiad,” Nace said. The on-field winner of the BFK competition faces the on-field winner of the ABC competition in a winner-takes-all dodgeball match. The last team standing gets to hoist the Olympiad Cup. The Scottsdale 20/30 branch also works with the Care Fund program, which provides mortgage and rent assistance to families who have a child with an extended health crisis. “We believe a parent should never have to choose between working to pay their mortgage or caring for their ill or injured child. The money raised goes to nearly two dozen charities, Care Fund being one of those,” Nace said. “From there, the money goes straight to local children in need.” In the past, the ABC/BFK events have raised over $500,000. This year, their goal is $600,000. scottsdale2030.org 20/30 Club’s mission to raise money for children PHOTOS COURTESY OF CHRIS NACE J M Chapman Agency Inc Jay Chapman, Agent Bus: (480) 945-7122 7055 E Thomas Rd Scottsdale, AZ 85251 jchapman@amfam.com American Family Mutual Insurance Company, S.I. & its Operating Companies, 6000 American Parkway, Madison, WI 53783 ©2015 006441 – Rev. 2/20 – 12923221 Call (480) 945-7122 for a no-obligation free quote. insuranCe DesigneD with You anD Your Dreams in minD.
