Submitted by: Heidi McNeil Staudenmaier Archie McNeil – Shoutout to my dad, Archie McNeil, age 90, of Preston, Iowa. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-54. He was stationed in Salzburg, Austria, and reached the rank of Sergeant. Proud of my dad’s service to his country! Submitted by: Erin Denk Wally Collins – I wanted to give a shoutout to my dad, Wally Collins, who owns Wally’s American Pub & Grill on 44th St. and Camelback Road. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1969 in the 535 TAS in Vietnam and from 1969-1972 in the 552nd Airborne Early Warning Squadron as a Captain/Combat Pilot in Thailand, Iceland and Korea. He was awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) as well as other commendations! Submitted by: Melissa Hirschl Jeff Hirschl – Navy. Stationed in San Diego in 1969. “Thank you so much for your service for our great country! I love you!” Submitted by: Greg Bruns Edward Bruns – Grandfather of Arcadia News Publisher Greg Bruns who was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 at age 19. He was wounded in southern France and awarded a Purple Heart. Submitted by: Roni Mier Joe F. Mier – A Tech Sgt. in France in 1944. He was one of six brothers serving in the military at the same time. David Schleeper – based in San Antonio, TX. “We are so proud of the things you have already accomplished and are excited to see the amazing medic you become!” Grandparents of Arcadia News staffer Roni Mier’s husband, Arthur, with their six sons who all served in WWII. Stephen Schleeper – Army 1990-1996 “Thank you for your years of service and instilling in our kids the desire to serve!” Submitted by: Tracy Keller Townsend Al Townsend – As a member of the Army National Guard for over 10 years, Sgt. Alfred Townsend recently returned home from a year-long deployment to Afghanistan with the Arizona National Guard’s Aviation Medevac unit (Phoenix Dustoff). He previously deployed to Kosovo in 2016 and Afghanistan in 2011-12.
