Christ Church Lutheran is looking for donations and volunteers for their Wednesday morning food pantry. Every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., families can come to the front of the school and pick up a box of goods. CCL’s highest need is protein items, such as peanut butter, canned tuna/chicken or canned/dried beans. Donations can be dropped off at the office or school drop off. Guests can choose from various lessons, such as pottery, ceramics, silkscreen and photography. This year, the honor goes to Beth Ames Swartz, a mixed-media artist celebrating a nearly 60-year career. Swartz will be honored during the 2020 Shemer Honors event, held virtually on November 13 at 6 p.m. Swartz will also introduce her works of art in an exhibition at the center, which will be on display through February 2021. The campaign will run through November, with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward charity. This month’s event will be fall-themed, with guests creating appetizers, soup, salad and an entrée – and then enjoying it together on the patio. This year’s event will keep with safety precautions, with masks required and limited capacity, but still plenty of fun. What’s more, this year’s event will host Morehouse College, playing at WestWorld for the very first time. Guests will enjoy polo matches, a fashion show, a guitar showcase, a post-polo concert and a Barrett-Jackson preview. Participants will meet at Shemer Art Center, 5005 E. Camelback Road. The Arcadia Camelback Mountain Neighborhood Association will provide trash bags, vests and pickers. Students can enjoy two hours of hitting, swinging and everything in-between as they learn the fundamentals of a successful baseball swing at the Salt River Fields Baseball Academy. The clinic will be hosted in the Colorado Rockies batting cages, and each session is limited to the first 25 campers on a first-come, first-serve basis.
