22 SEPTEMBER 2020 By Ray Artigue They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and in the case of Justin Bayless, that couldn’t be truer. Bayless is the product of two health care clinicians: his mother, a counselor with advanced degrees, and his father, a forensic psychologist. “I started going to the office with my father as a 9-year-old and even wore a suit. I always loved dressing like a professional and being in a professional environment from an early age,” the 36-year-old businessman said. Bayless is an Arizona native and attended St. Mary’s High School. He earned an accounting degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, attending on a Presidential Scholarship. Upon graduation, he moved to New York to begin his career as a Wall Street banker. His time in the Big Apple was short-lived. He returned to the Valley in 2008 to work with his father – Dr. Brad Bayless – as CFO of Bayless Integrated Healthcare. Bayless immediately began to pursue his vision for incorporating primary care and behavioral health services under one roof, which hadn’t been done before. Today the Bayless proprietary model of wellness addresses the mind and body as being equally important, and their ongoing expansion of health care services makes for “one-stop” patient care. Bayless is now CEO and has grown the company to 270 employees in eight locations around the Valley. He has been just as prolific in his personal life as he and his wife, Jamil, have added three daughters to their young family in only two years. “We have twins, but actually, all three girls look alike.” Bayless said the pandemic has been challenging for his family but finds the positive in spending more time with “all four of my ladies.” Like so many families, they enjoy walking the bike paths of Arcadia and connecting with neighbors. “Our clinics have been prepared for something like COVID because we have practiced telemedicine for a while. My dad was a pioneer, and he used to talk about how technology would change medicine someday,” he said. “Ultimately, I hope to have the ability to improve the lives of millions of people,” Bayless said. Bayless Integrated Healthcare is currently developing what he calls “lifestyle medicine,” which addresses sleep, diet, physical conditioning and more. Bayless has been widely recognized for his business acumen and community leadership. In 2017, he was named a “Top 20 Influential Millennial Honoree” by AZ Business Magazine , and in 2018 he was included in the “Who’s Next: Entrepreneurs” list by AZ Central . Most recently, he was included in 2019’s “Forty under Forty” by the Phoenix Business Journal . He was also appointed by Governor Ducey to serve on the Arizona Commission on African American Affairs. In his spare time, Bayless enjoys mentoring youth, traveling with his family, attending car shows and movies, and challenging his younger brother-turned- NBA-star, Jerryd, to pickup basketball games. He doesn’t say much about the outcomes of those contests.
