But for many facilities, the recommendations came too late and 2020 dates had to be canceled. Despite closures and restrictions, many organizations within and just beyond the limits of Arcadia are hosting summer camps throughout July, both in-person and virtually. Here are some: CAMP HUBBARD A weekly camp that features essential sports like archery and volleyball along with crafts, games, field sports and other activities. Ages: 5-14 Location: Griffith Elementary, 4505 E. Palm Lane, Phoenix. Who it’s best for: Kids who like to stay active. Duration and dates: Week-long camps held Monday through Friday for full or half days through July. Cost: $160 to $285 hubbardsports.com/details CAMP ZOO TO YOU The virtual edition of the Phoenix Zoo’s annual summer camp traditionally hosted in-person at the zoo. This year there will be three, week-long sessions available with the themes of birds, reptiles and amphibians and mammals. Students can sign-up for all three, two or one. Ages: Children entering kindergarten through sixth in the 2020-21 school year. Location: Virtual Duration and dates: Every week through July. Marshall Way, Scottsdale Who it’s best for: Kid foodies and future chefs, and parents who secretly want their kids to bake them gourmet treats. Classes are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. Cost: $65 per household thebekindpeopleproject.org/ Be-Kind-American-adventure MAD SCIENCE Camp themes center around different STEM topics, such as NASA, robots, secret agent skills and chemical reactions. Ages: 3-12 Location: 2701 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix Who it’s best for: Hands-on learners who are interested in how things work. Duration and dates: Full and half-day camps are available. All camps take place over five days with different time sessions. There is also a virtual option. Who it’s best for: Anyone interested in gymnastics and dance. Duration and dates: Week-long camp from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. through July. Throughout the week campers will attend Zoom classes and undertake creative activities like writing, music and visual art related to their camp’s theme. Ages: 6-14 Location: Virtual Who it’s best for: Creatives who like to dabble in all art forms. Children who love movies, comics, science fiction and fantasy. Duration and dates: Two-week sessions in July.
