Arcadia High School held an inaugural Senior Parade on May 20, where students and their families drove through the Hopi Elementary parking lot to celebrate their grads. They were greeted by Principal Stevens. Grand Marshal and Student Body President Charlie Siegel spoke a few words, and senior Olivia McGinley sang the National Anthem. The students were celebrated with pomp and circumstance while neighbors cheered safely from the sidelines. Arcadia High also had posters of each graduate made and set up on the front lawn at the high school. Staff, parents and the community were able to celebrate along with the students before their graduation parade. Xavier and Brophy juniors Jamie Stelnik, Jackson Moran and Charlie Fallon created a virtual fun-run to benefit St. Vincent de Paul. The Arizona Run for COVID-19 challenges folks to run one mile or a 5K and send in their time. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest times and there is also a raffle. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund for meals, food boxes for families in need, rent and utility assistance, telemedicine, hygiene kits and shelter. Payne Palmer celebrated his 80th birthday by waking up to pictures spread out on his lawn of the guests that would have been at a celebration dinner. “It reminded me of seat holders from the Academy Awards,” said sister-in-law Terry Palmer. “He was surprised!” Nita Shaw also celebrated her 95th birthday quarantine-style with a socially-distanced concert performed by the DirtyKeyzDuo. Folks set up chairs in their driveways and helped Nee celebrate with drinks, tunes and decorations. “It was a great day,” Nita’s daughter, Robbie, said. “Mom felt the love. It really boosted her spirits in this challenging time!” Board positions are available at Hopi Elementary.
