There will be live music and entertainment coming all the way from Germany’s Oktoberfest, plus DJs and dancing. Food trucks and vendors will be ready to serve up German dishes like bratwurst and spaetzle. Interactive games and classic German beers will top off this FRIDAY 10/4 Civic Center Public Gallery Grand Opening 6:30 p.m. at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale. The Civic Center Public Gallery has replaced the Gallery @ the Library, where Scottsdale Public Art held shows for more than a decade. Guests can come view the space and its newest exhibit: “Messages in Ink, Women in Print.” There will be refreshments and some of the artists will be in attendance. There will also be free activities for the celebration, such as printmaking and inkblot art. For more: scottsdalepublicart.org. Tour De Fat 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at Tempe Beach Park, 80 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Tempe. It’s that time again for the party on two wheels. The Tour De Fat is back with musical guests, a bike parade, circus performers, a dance contest, costumes, beers and bike rides. After the ride, there will be a street fair on Mill Avenue. Galvin Pkwy., Phoenix. Come out and support the Phoenix Zoo with a black-tie event that won’t actually require a black tie. Guests should wear their best tropical attire and hang with the animals while enjoying dinner and specialty drinks prepared by Valley chefs and mixologists. There will also be live music and dancing, and a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the zoo’s education and outreach programs. Tickets are $250 per person. Furry Friends Fine Arts Festival 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Shemer Art Center, 5005 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix. Now is the time to celebrate our four-legged best friends. This animal-themed art festival will have paw readings, pet adoptions, live music, business vendors, food by Short Leash Hot Dogs and coffee from Black Cat Coffeehouse, plus live entertainment. Pima Road, Scottsdale. Get the chance to experience Jurassic Park in real life. Guests will encounter the sights and sounds of moving and breathing dinosaurs like the T-Rex and the Pterodactyl. Via de Ventura, Scottsdale. Take advantage of the cooler temperatures and enjoy a family- friendly event with Odysea. A Bug’s Life will be playing on the big screen but there are plenty of other activities, including a Francis the Ladybug meet-and-greet, garden flag craft, seed-planting craft or seed packet giveaway, game table and prize wheel.
