46 SEPTEMBER 2019 THURSDAY 9/5  SUNDAY 9/8 Fall Colors of Tucson Artisan Show 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Casino Del Sol Conference Center, 5655 W. Valencia Road, Tucson. This four-day extravaganza will present more than 300 exhibits featuring independent artisans, studio artists and craftspeople showcasing their goods. Browse through jewelry, gems, beads and clothing while also participating in workshops. Guests can learn about gems and minerals or craft their very own handmade jewelry at the Fall Colors of Tucson. Admission is free. For more: colorsofthestone.com. SATURDAY 9/7 Food Truck Movie Night 5:30 p.m. at Paseo Verde Park, 7510 W. Greenway Ave., Peoria. This event is a whole lot of activities rolled into one. There will be a dance party to kick things off, plus face painting, balloon twister, music, pop-up shopping and games. Shrek will be playing on the big screen, so attendees should bring blankets and chairs and grab something to eat from one of the on-site food trucks. This event is free for all ages. For more: westvalleypopup.webs.com. Celebrate the Heat 4-10 p.m. on Main St. in historic downtown Yuma. This year’s Celebrate the Heat event has a hula theme. There will be live entertainment, an ice garden, water games, “misting” from the fire department, plus free drinks and treats. Moana will be playing on the big screen and later in the evening will be the Summer Nights Car Show. This event is free for all ages. SATURDAY 9/14 Rockin’ Taco Street Festival 12-9 p.m. at Dr. AJ Chandler Park, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave., Chandler. Taco lovers unite for this festival, which has returned for the 8th year in a row. The Rockin’ Taco Fest boasts over a dozen local taco restaurants and creators to sample from, plus lucha libre wrestling, low-riders, live music, a kids zone, pinata party, margaritas, beer and eating competitions. Tickets are $10 for general admission. For more: rockintacoaz.com. Messy Fest 5-10 p.m. at the Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre, 20464 E. Riggs Road, Queen Creek. At this adult- only Messy Fest, attendees can participate in a challenge course, tug of war, water games, food fights, shaving cream fights and a muddy obstacle course – to name a few. There will also be beer, wine and food for purchase. Tickets are $15. For more: messyfest.com. TUESDAY 9/10 Beginners Cheese Making Class 6 -10 p.m. at the Artisan Olive, 5930 W. Greenway Road, Glendale. Why buy cheese at the grocery store when you can learn to make your own? At this beginner’s cheese making class, students will learn the techniques for making ricotta, queso fresco and a cheese spread. There will also be a discussion on OUT OF THE AREA, BUT WORTH THE DRIVE Messy Fest at Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre. Attendees will be able to sample sips from Verde Valley wineries while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Saturday night Starlight trips. This month’s featured wine is Arizona Stronghold. FRIDAY 9/13  SUNDAY 9/15 Pickin’ in the Pines Music Festival Times vary, at the Pepsi Amphitheater, Fort Tuthill, Flagstaff. Take the weekend and escape to Flagstaff for three days of bluegrass and acoustic music. The 14th annual Pickin’ in the Pines Festival boasts non-stop music, camping, barn dances, workshops, band contests and kids’ activities. SATURDAY 9/21 Peanut Butter and Jelly Throwdown 5-9 p.m. at the Arrowhead Country Club, 19888 N. 73rd Ave., Glendale. There are burger throwdowns and taco throwdowns, but what about PB&J sandwiches? At this event, over 15 food trucks will battle it out to win votes for the best peanut butter dish, best sweet and savory and most creative dish. Margarita, Mojito, Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival 4-10 p.m. at Riverview Park, 2100 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Mesa. This food truck festival will have more than 40 tasting stations for attendees to sample, from margaritas to hand-crafted cocktails and everything in between. Each ticket includes bottomless tastings and a commemorative glass. There will also be a variety of food trucks, live music and a vendor village. This is a family-friendly event. Admission is $50. For more: bit.ly/arizonafest. SATURDAY 9/28 Haunted Swap Meet 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Metro Barks and Brews Festival 12-5 p.m. at the County Courthouse, 200 N. San Francisco St., Flagstaff. Humans and hounds are welcome at the 4th annual Barks and Brews Festival. There will be dog adoptions, vendors and activities to kick-off the event.
