44 MARCH 2019 By Elaina Verhoff On March 21, the Florence Crittenton program will host its 17th Annual Teaming Up for Girls Luncheon at The Phoenician. This year’s event is co-chaired by Latasha Causey and Arcadia’s own Jenny Holsman Tetreault. Tetreault, who serves as legal counsel at US Foods, first learned about Florence Crittenton (a.k.a. Flo Crit) and its mission to support healing at-risk and disadvantaged girls when touring the organization through a Valley Leadership program. “The mission of Florence Crittenton is to give every girl whose life we touch safety, hope and opportunity,” says Tetreault, who in addition to co-chairing this year’s luncheon also serves on the Florence Crittenton board of directors. “This mission is supported by a vision to be the national leader in changing the future for girls... with a mission and vision like this, how could I not be compelled to serve?” As one of the biggest fundraisers in town, the annual Teaming Up for Girls Luncheon brings more than 800 business leaders and community members together to support the organization’s mission. Cheryl Burke, professional dancer from the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars,” will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. Longstanding community champion and co-chair of Florence Crittenton, Tahnia McKeever, will also be recognized at the luncheon as the recipient of the Visionary Award, and an as-yet unnamed Hope Award recipient will also be honored. Proceeds from the l u n c h e o n w i l l benefit programs and services for individuals struggling to overcome challenges caused by poverty, abu se, neglect, crime, homelessness, victimization and violence. Florence Crittenton also runs Arizona’s first and only public single- gender college preparatory school, the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona (GLAAZ), a charter high school that is provided free of charge to its students. Tetreault wants to encourage Arcadians to get involved with Florence Crittenton. “First, we would love to have men and women from the Arcadia area join us at the Teaming Up for Girls Luncheon,” she said. “Beyond that, Florence Crittenton is looking for mentors, inspirational speakers, tutors, administrative aides and volunteers at Flo’s on 7th (resale shop). We would also welcome individuals to visit the campus for a special tour to find out about the agency, our mission and how to best become engaged.” Learn more about Florence Crittenton at flocrit.org.
