28 JANUARY 2019 By Elaina Verhoff We all know that the new year means making New Year’s resolutions, and chances are exercising, getting fit and losing weight have been on the list once or twice. If you’re tired of the same old routine and that boring treadmill, check out the newest trends in the fitness world here in the Valley: SPENGA If you’re continually torn between going to Orange Theory or a yoga class, why not do both? The new franchise concept gym offers a workout that includes a hard-core spin session followed by 20 minutes of strength training and 20 minutes of revitalizing yoga. Arizona has one SPENGA location in Chandler, and there are plans to open a new location in Scottsdale in 2019. Prices start at $69 for four monthly classes and go up to $129 for unlimited monthly classes. For more: spenga.com. Lagree Fitness at The Body Lab If you peek into The Body Lab every time you walk up to AJ’s on Camelback and are curious about what’s going on inside, let 2019 be the year you satisfy your curiosity. This studio offers Lagree Fitness – a workout performed in very slow and controlled moves using constant tension from the megaformer (a more customizable reformer than those offered in most Pilates classes). The low-impact, high-intensity workout targets each muscle group with extreme precision, working your slow twitch muscles to increase the endurance and toning. There are locations in Arcadia and North Scottsdale. For more: thebodylabus.com. Eat the Frog Fitness Mark Twain once said “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning,” meaning if you get your hardest job taken care of, the rest is cake. It’s that concept that drives Eat the Frog Fitness, a new gym with locations around the country. Co-founded by an Olympic decathlete, Eat the Frog promises “Olympic-inspired training, cutting-edge technology, and the science of your body for the most advanced workout in the market.” All membership packages, ranging from $69.95 to $149.95 per month, include access to unlimited virtual classes. Eat the Frog has locations in Ahwatukee, North Scottsdale, and one coming soon to Paradise Valley. Your first class is free. For more: eatthefrogfitness.com. Yoga Wall At first glance, a yoga wall or a yoga rope wall may look like an ancient torture device, but the system of wall-mounted straps is actually designed to achieve proper alignment and maximize energy flow while experiencing yoga poses. If you’re a beginner, a yoga wall offers support as you move your body in new ways. And if you’re an experienced yogi, the yoga wall enables you to experience a different practice and deepen your asanas. Remember… you’re only as old as your spine. Yoga wall classes are available locally at Modern Yoga in Scottsdale, Spirit of Yoga in Tempe and Living Stone Yoga in Gilbert. New year, new you: unique fitness trends to try in 2019 Yoga Wall is a new trend that is making its way to the Valley. 4510 N 24th Street • Phoenix, AZ 85016 • (602) 954-9088 • staphxschool.org NOW ENROLLING!
